When we got Dakota on February 3rd, he weighed 5 lbs. Today I'm guessing he's fairly close to 30 lbs. Though the SPCA* told us he was born in December, I'm thinking that he was actually born in January. In March, he weighed 9.5 lbs. when we had him to the vet and that is right in line with a two month old Shepherd. At night when he's sleeping, he sucks his tongue...a sign that he is suckling and was weaned waaay too soon.
He stands to just below my knee cap now...approximately 17 inches. Have you ever tried to measure a rambunctious puppy? It's a difficult chore.
I'll keep working with him and he will become calmer, I'm hoping. Being the owner of a dog is very much like tending to small children. You have to have eyes in the back of your head, be able to decipher noises from other parts of the house and keep a constant eye on them to keep them safe.
This weekend is the Victoria Day holiday here, so Monday is a statutory holiday. The holiday goes back to the time when Canada was a British Colony and Britain was ruled by Queen Victoria. Her birthday was celebrated on the 24th of May. Today, it is celebrated on the Monday before the 24th.
Have a great weekend. It is usually cold and rainy here on this long weekend and this year will be no exception.
Dakota is getting lots bigger! Have a nice holiday weekend and thanks for explaining it!
ReplyDeleteGood for Dakota. Vicky would be amused.
ReplyDeleteHe is certainly growing... you can tell it in the pictures... our lawn has lots of clover also... Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteNice photos I hope you have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteMy Friend I wish you a very special weekend...m.
ReplyDeleteLacie and Dakota would probably have a lot of fun together. I hope we get an opportunity to see that this summer. I hope you're feeling a little better and that you had a good night's sleep last night.
ReplyDeleteHave a great, peaceful holiday weekend Mary!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if he's weaned too early that explains a lot of his hyper activities. Maybe having him neutered will help calm him down some.
He's GORGEOUS!!!
Dakota is so beautiful. He is growing so quickly.
ReplyDeleteNo gardening here yet, seems like we get a couple days of beautiful sunny warm days, then it is back to rainy, and very cold. Hope to get out in the dirt soon.
Have a wonderful weekend.
God bless.
Dakota is one really handsome dude! I would still love to get a puppy but the issues as you mentioned with training them -I really don't NEED a puppy! I have to keep practicing my own teachings I used with my kids -do I need this or do I just want this? Right now, I just want a dog and until it becomes a thing where the want and the need actually conjoin, I think we will stay with just being a cat-lover family.
ReplyDeleteMary, I was able to get the music video I wanted on my entry. I hope you will come back and give it a listen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing him again. I like going barefoot in the grass so I know how he feels. I love the Swans.
ReplyDeleteMama Bear
He is so adorable! I'm a huge dog lover. I have two male Maltese.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing with us. Bless you.
My brother and his wife just got a new puppy last weekend. Our dog is nine, but Keith's puppy suddenly reminded me just how much work it takes to raise a fine and sociable dog.
ReplyDeleteDakota looks beautiful!
He is getting bigger.
