Christmas Surprise!

Hubby and I agreed there would be no Christmas gifts to each other this year. After all, we are going on a wonderful vacation with our grandsons. It was to be birthdays, anniversary and Christmas gifts all rolled into one. I should have known better. Hubby sees these little things that he knows I love and brings them home to me. I'm not complaining, but an agreement is an agreement. I didn't buy him anything for Christmas because... well, that was the agreement.

Yesterday we had doctor's appointments. We both have the same doctor and since he is in a rural area, about a twenty minute drive from here, we almost always go together. This saves gas and allows me to keep up on hubby's health. Did you know a doctor can't divulge anything in a medical record without permission, not even to a spouse?

Anyway, we were both fine, except for my ear infection. Our blood pressure and all that tricky stuff was all under control. So, after making an appointment for six weeks, we left and headed home. On the way is this little store that always has the most wonderful things all year 'round. Hubby pulled into the driveway and we headed inside to look around. Their Christmas decorations and ornaments are always beautiful and reasonably priced. I buy many gifts at this store.

Well, lo and behold there are Santas galore, (Anni, you would have loved it) snowmen, snowladies, Christmas bears, reindeer and every other Christmas decoration you would ever imagine. They had yule logs with cardinals that were tealight holders. Near the back of the store we found a shelf of Christmas angels and fairies. These are some of my favorite things and hubby knows it.

Here is what he got me. She is divine. Another to add to my collection of very special angels.

Isn't she both beautiful and unique? I must put the year on the bottom so I can remember exactly when hubby gave her to me. She is polyresin, but looks just like wood, even when you are up close. The bottom of her skirt, her neckline and cuffs look exactly like tree bark. She is holding a birdhouse in one hand and a cardinal in the other. Hubby also knows I love cardinals and birdhouses. So he made a very good choice. I'm delighted with her and gave him a big kiss.

He also bought me a snowman. In fact, he bought four of these. One for my daughter and my mother and two for me. They are beautiful also.
Can you see the sparkles on the hat and the ends of the scarf? They will look lovely on my Christmas tree next year. Since we didn't put one up this year, I hung Frosty from the doorway. He looks pretty good there.

Mom loved hers. We gave it to her early as we won't be at her house this year when she has Christmas dinner. She always has her big dinner near New Years so all of the kids and grandkids can go to their relatives on the opposite side of the family for Christmas Day. She is a special lady.

I wish all of my friends and readers a safe and Merry Christmas. May the Light of Christmas shine in your hearts and in your homes. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. Good Evening Mary,
OH, what a beautiful Angel. She is so precious. And I love the little Snowman too. I can see the glitter on the hat and the on the edge of the scarf. You husband did very good. I know it's hard sometimes to keep an agreement around Christmas, but I know you love them both and are very proud to have received them from your husband. I'm glad yall's health was in good standing. My Parents try and go to their Doctor on the same day as well. It sure saves alot on these high gas prices around here. Oh, I'm sure Anni would love that store. She is such a character I tell ya. I was just over there a while ago and she has her Thursday 13 posted. If you get time, you should go read it. It is hilarious. She knows how to put a smile on your face for sure. I do hope your ear is feeling better today. Thanks so much for sharing your gifts from you husband. He sounds like a very wonderful man. I know you are proud of him. Well, take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  3. They're lovely, Mary! Now to get your hubby something...but if he's like mine, make him some cookies or candy and he'll be more than pleased with his gift! ;o)

Thank you for your prayers, dear friend. Praise God, I am feeling much better today! Now my prayers are going up for you that your ear infection will go away and you'll feel better quickly and in time to enjoy your vacation.

Have a happy, joyous and blessed Christmas, Mary.

  4. Karen,

I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the gifts that hubby bought me. Yes, I do love them both. We've been married 19 years, as you know and there was a time when he didn't think of things like this. I guess he's learned a little over the years. LOL

I did go over to Anni's and read her Thursday 13. It was hilarious.

    Love and blessings,
    Mary

  5. Denise,

Yes, he does try to get me things he likes and though we have our ups and downs, just as all couples do, we do love each other and neither of us holds grudges.

Grandma told me a long time ago, "Never let the sun set on your wrath." I've always followed her advice and it has paid off.

    Love and blessings,

  10. Naturegirl,

I think I will take Diane's suggestion and make hubby a sweet treat. He likes sweets and we don't have them in the house often, as I am diabetic.

Thank you for your kind and loving comments. I enjoy visiting with you. I hope you heal quickly.

  12. Denise,

I collect anything that is unique, but do love my angels and fairies. I also have quite a few snowmen and Santas, as well as three nativities.

Thank you for your well-wishes. We are going to have a great time with the boys.

You caught that ole ear bug in time to get rid of him so you can have a wonderful time in Florida with the BOYS.
Thanks for sharing your treasures that he gave you. Prince and I make the same deal and usually one of us is a deal breaker. Last year I was the bad one.
I cannot help myself as I love to give and I bake and can alot so I can give a little of myself to loved ones.
Besides Jesus was given only three presents so why do people go over board at this time of year.
You have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and be safe and come back to us bloggers after you have had a wonderful vacation.
    Peace my dear.

  14. Lady Di,

Yes, I will get rid of this before it's time to leave. I'm determined to. Brandon was upset when he heard I had ear infection. He knows how much it hurts, as he is also susceptible. I told him all would be fine.

Yes, hubby was the deal breaker this year. I think it was me last year. We bought the new front door in the fall, which was kind of extravagant and that was to be anniversary and Christmas. I went ahead and gave him a gift. LOL So, if he isn't bad, then I am.

Thanks so much for your well-wishes and kind and loving words, dear friend.

    Have a wonderful Christmas.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  19. Mimi,

Yes, hubby knows that angels or fairies will certainly get my attention. This angel is so unique and I just love her. I have her sitting between two candles and when they are lit, she has a very mysterious aura.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.

  21. You have one very wonderful hubby! The angel is most beautiful and the snowman so cute...you are one very lucky woman.

My husband and I don't exchange gifts as a rule and I'm hoping he holds up his end of the agreement this year. He's behaving very cagey lately and he has me worried.

Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.

  22. Joan,

Yes, we said the same thing last year because we bought the front door, which was quite expensive. I broke the agreement then. This year it's him, so I guess it evens out.

Thanks for dropping by and leaving such kind comments on the angel and snowmen. I love them.

  24. Dearest Mary, your new angel is absolutely gorgeous and you're right, she does look like she's made out of wood...you'd never think it was polyresin!! You certainly do have a very special husband but then he's got a very special wife:-) I'm so glad to hear that you are both in good health but hopefully your ear infection will clear up real soon. Love the little snowman ornament he got for you also...adorable!! I've no doubt you're getting quite excited about your upcoming trip, as are your grandsons:-) Love you! xoxo

  28. Grams,

My doctor doesn't like handing out antibiotics and so he only gave me ear drops, which may or may not work. Usually they don't, but I'm having faith that this time they will. I always have to get REALLY sick before he will give me antibiotics and I don't have time to get that sick right now. However, faith does wonders, so I'm sticking to the fact that the ear drops will work.

    Thanks so much for visiting.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  29. Pea,

Right now I'm not excited about the trip, but the boys and hubby are. There's been a few glitches that I hope will work themselves out.

Thanks for your comments on the angel and snowman. I love the angel and she is quite heavy. The boys were here for a few minutes after school and think she is wooden. They also had fairies. Do you have Smitty's in your neighborhood?

Thanks for dropping by, my friend.

  32. I don't know if I commented on this but I wanted to . It has been a tad crazy around here the last few days.
I have a special liking for cardinals too. I don't really collect them but people have given them to me.
I heard a story one time about a Mom and what cardinals meant to her. Since then I have loved them too.
I will try and find the post I did on the story.
Also, I got your card and letter. Thank you for sharing a little of yourself with me. It was nice to hold a little bit of your life in my hands. I thank God for you--my sister.

  33. I hope you are feeling better. We are having lovely weather here in Florida so maybe you will get excited when you are here! (I hope the weather holds up!)

I posted the snowman and Santa trees today and will add another theme tree on Kelli's Show and Tell tomorrow!

Do you have a post about cardinals?

  34. Renie,

Thank you for the prayers for Mom and Michelle. Michelle had an ultra sound today and she has a large cyst on her ovary. Not sure if it will mean surgery or not.

The ear is a little better and I am using the eardrops faithfully. I dislike them intensely, but we do what we have to do.

I've enjoyed your visit, as always. Merry Christmas, my friend and abundant blessings for the New Year.

I would love to take you to Florida with us. We are hoping to come to Missouri in 2009. If so, we will meet in town.

  35. Sharon,

I love cardinals, bluejays and bluebirds. They are so pretty. I also think that blue indingo buntings are beautiful.

I hope you find that story. I would love to read it. Glad you received and enjoyed the card and letter.

Love and blessings for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  36. Katherine,

I don't have a cardinal post, but just mentioned in this one that the angel is holding a cardinal and that I loved them. In winter, we often have cardinals and bluejays visit our yard. When Christmas is over and we get back from Florida, I will try to get some photos.

I checked the Florida forecast for the next 10 days and it looks pretty good. I am hoping it's not the 90 to 100 degree weather that we had in January 2005. It was so HOT! 70 is great.

Take care. I will be over to visit soon.

Blessings for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  38. That animated picture of Baby Jesus and the lambs is precious! My new Willow Tree nativity is sitting where little fingers aren't quite so tempted. But little Feisty brought one of the little lambs out to me, just cuddling it to her cheek and saying, "Oh, what a sweet little lamb!" It was so precious.

Your husband is sweet and has very good taste.

Have a wonderful time in Florida. I can imagine how excited you are to get to warmth. We sure enjoyed the breezes in Hawaii.

  40. The angels and snowman look adorable!! During Christmas time, rules are meant to be broken. Lucky you, going on a vacation with your grandkids. :)

Per HIPAA rules, doctors have to abide by the privacy and confidentiality laws. They don't share info with a patient's relative (even a spouse) or friends. It's only to protect the patient's medical information because they could be separated and be used against them in divorce court or something. Some people don't want their information shared. Think about the media getting into celebrities' medical records? That's a big NO-NO. That's why when you get a phone call from the clinic, they want to talk to the patient or they will call back or the patient has to call back.

All do have to do is share the information yourself with your spouse, relatives, and friends or authorize it that you wznt to share it. You do that when you first go in and sign the chargeslip/encounter form that you are willing to share your information with medical personnel and billing purposes.

  41. Oh my goodness....I really, REALLY thought it was carved wood! How wonderful this is. I simply love the angel. And the snowman is adorable. You got a good fella there, I'd keep him. *smile*

I bet I would have just spent way too much on Santas if I would have been with you two.

It's good to hear that you're both doing well. That's ALWAYS good to hear. Life is good.

Hey, I think that's a super idea 'bout having a big dinner on New Years...that way the families can celebrate their own traditions without guilt. Excellent idea.

    Have a terrific Friday Mary!!!

  42. Mary, what a sweet and thoughtful husband you have (even though he breaks agreements!) ;)
The angel and snowman are wonderful!

  43. Katherine,

I will be over to see the tea themed tree. I did miss it and that is just not acceptable. It sounds wonderful. Thanks for letting me know.

    Dawn,

You grandchildren must love the nativity and soon there will be more grandchildren to love it.

I'm glad you had such a great time in Hawaii. I've never been, but one day it would be nice. I loved all your photos.

    Michele,

I love them both and over the years I've collected some lovely Christmas ornaments and decorations. I plan on posting a few later if I get time. Thanks so much for stopping by.

    Shari,

I like going to the doctor with hubby because then I know EXACTLY what is going on. For some reason hubby thinks he has to protect me from any negative information. So if our appointments are separate, I make sure and go with him at least twice a year. This keeps me from worrying.

Thanks for the kind words about the angel and the snowman. ;-)

    Anni,

Other than the ear infection, which is not as bad as it was, we are fine. That is good news.

I love the angel because she looks like she's made of wood and she's so unique. You can hardly tell she's not wooden when you look at her up close. When you touch her, you know she is polyresin, but she is gorgeous.

Yes, Mom used to try and accommodate everyone and it almost drove her nuts, so she moved everything to New Year's Day. We won't be here this year and I will sure miss her dinner.

    Tammy,

There have been times in the last 19 years that I would have sent hubby to the moon. LOL He would have probably done the same to me sometimes, but he is a sweetie most of the time, so I will grin and bear it. ;-)

Thanks to each of you for stopping by and commenting. I love you all and wish that the Light of Christmas will shine in both your homes and your heart.

    Blessings to each of you.
