An Amazing Find

On Friday afternoon when I came up the walk after running some errands, I came across the most amazing find. Right at the bottom of the porch steps was this huge maple leaf. I brought it into the house, photographed and measured it. It measures 11 inches across and 9.5 inches from point to stem. I don't believe I've ever seen such a large maple leaf. I'm wondering how big the tree was that grew it. The tree at the end of our driveway is between two and three hundred years old but it didn't bear this leaf, as it it not the right type of maple tree. I would love to know where this came from, but have no idea. It could have blown into the yard from anywhere, as winds have been strong here lately. The leaf is dry but not so dry that it crumbles and I am going to try and preserve it. I just find it amazing.

When I announced the card shower for S., I promised I would post a photograph of all the cards that I received. Here it is. How wonderful that S. will receive all of these for Christmas. Once again, I want to thank everyone that participated in the card shower.

In other news, Brandon came over about 5pm on Saturday and we had hamburgers and then he and I went to Wal *Mart to pick up a transparent tablecloth to put over the cloth one that I put on the table over the Christmas holidays. The bargains were fantastic. Everywhere we looked they had rolled back the prices. I found something for hubby that I'm going to keep to give him for Christmas. Usually about $30, I got it for $10. I can't tell you what it is, as sometimes he reads my blog and that would spoil the surprise. We also bought two beautiful cinnamon candles that will be perfect to give off a homey fragrance over the holidays. Brandon found a deal and finished his Christmas shopping for Jordan. He got a $40 game for $15. He couldn't believe it.

Not much other news from here. They are calling for snow today and tomorrow and I'm hoping it's not too much. However regions all around us have snow and though we've had a few flurries, we have no accumulation.

Take care and enjoy some family time today. I wish you all a great week. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. What a find... If you were here I would give it to my brother and let him make a ceramic cast..... He has made several of them from real leaves, and they are beautiful .... I bet you can put that between two books and keep it....... What a gift.......... Have a blessed week girl and I am so sorry that I did not get that card to you for S....... I really meant to..... Maybe next year I will do something nice for her or another soldier.....

  5. Are you sure it's a maple leaf, Mary? It looks like a sycamore leaf, but I have no idea if sycamores even grow in your Northern regions. They're very common around here.

I don't suppose my card ever made it there; you haven't let me know it got there. I guess it got lost in the mail somehow. Oh well, maybe next time....

I love snow and it would be wonderful to have a white Christmas, but it's not all that common here. We generally get most of our snow in January and February, when we get much at all.

I need to do most of Christmas shopping and I hope I find some bargains. I could sure use them to stretch my meager funds this year! Glad you got some good deals.

Have a blessed Sunday and a good week, my friend. :o)

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  6. Just getting ready to start work on our second Thanksgiving dinner today -will be all three of my kids and all three of the grandchildren here provided the weather holds up so the older daughter and her family can make it up here. They are calling for ice and sleet here today but haven't heard anything as yet as to when they predict this will arrive. Hope if it has to come, it holds off till later this evening so daughter and family can be able to make it here.

  7. A very special blessing from God is your leaf. I love it when He does that.
I haven't been out since Wednesday except for the mile over to Daughter's. I am going to church today. I think I'm beginning to get cabin fever, especially as the sun hasn't peaked out since Friday and doesn't plan to until Tuesday or Wednesday.

  8. That has to be one big Granddaddy tree. Our big oak which gave Puppy the biggest oak leaf in the fourth grade class was hit by lighting a few years ago and had to be cut. The oak leaf was 23 inches long and I put it in a large box lid and sent it to his school. It covered the whole lid so it had to be at least 13 inches wide. I cannot handle the large crowds but I am glad y'all found some bargains. Peace

  17. I must have misunderstood because I thought there was still time to get a card your way for Christmas but not Thanksgiving. Honestly Mary, if I don't write things down on my calendar, I really do forget. It's not intentional.

  18. Oh wow, that is indeed a big Maple leaf...it would be so interesting to find out where it blew in from:-) Since it landed on your front door step, it must have known you would bring it in and take care of it!! hehe

Sounds like you had a great day with Brandon and being able to find such good sales makes it even better!

How wonderful that so many participated in sending a Christmas card to be given to that soldier. Wish I could see the smile on her face when she receives them:-) Bless your heart for doing this for her!!

We got that snowstorm here overnight and oh boy, we have tons of snow. I have to admit it sure looks pretty, though:-) xoxo
