What I've Been Up To

I've been really busy lately and life is hectic. I would love to live in a small town where life was easy and there was no hustle and bustle. I don't think it's possible in this day and age. I think everywhere is probably the same. If the phone isn't ringing, there's someone at the door or there's appointments to keep and errands to run.

Anyway, that is not my idea of a good time. I like things quiet. So, when hubby is not here or when he's resting, I take a little time for myself, relax and create things. Let's take a look at what I've been up to.

The postcard in the photo above is handmade. Yes, I made it from scratch. First I scanned one of my vintage postcards, then printed the image, made a postcard blank and fastened the image to the postcard. It has been sealed to prevent damage by inclement weather. This was a really fun project.
I've also been making greeting cards. The one above is a half fold card, which means it is only folded once and it's on 11x8.5 inch cardstock. It is a blank Christmas card and there is lots of room to write a lengthy message to someone who you haven't seen in a long time...or, if desired, I can put a verse in it. I enjoy making cards and this image is also scanned from a vintage postcard from my collection.

The other thing I enjoy making is ceramic tile coasters. This is one of my Christmas tiles. It is also scanned from a vintage postcard, cropped to fit the tile, then adhered to them. I make them in sets of four but can always make more if anyone desires more than that. The tile are coated with several coats of sealer and then a finishing coat to give them extra protection. They are so much fun to make and I've made several sets as gifts. Everyone loves them.
So that is what I've been up to when I haven't been online.

My computer was down a week and a half ago and had to be taken into the shop. They got it up and running but didn't get it completely fixed. I phoned yesterday and they will have it all day tomorrow. The computer guy says he suspects the video card may have to be replaced or possibly the computer is overheating. Say what? This computer is not even a year and a half old. I've had a lot of trouble with it. I will never again buy an AC*ER computer. The best computer I've ever had was my Dell.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week.

  1. You do nice work Mary. I like the vintage feel of these things. I would be upset about the computer too. They don't make things to last like they used to.

  2. Very lovely projects. I'm glad you've had some time toy ourself.

It's funny how people feel about computers - some hate Dell and love the one you had - my Dell has been good, but the batteries are outrageously high priced!

  4. I am also leery of that brand although I've had the impression that they were now better. Still would not likely purchase one, however.

  9. Oh my goodness Mary you have made some lovely things! Wish you lived closer and could give me some lessons, I would love to make some of those coasters. Suppose I could Google it and find out the materials and all?

Sounds like you are very busy. I sometimes think, I am really not so busy but it takes me sooooo much longer to do things now, that I seem busier. Grandma Christian CCD hit me hard and I have been fighting dust bunnies. With my back problems, I have to limit my fight to only a couple of rooms a day. Okay is the 12th your burpday or is it the 17th. I think I may have gotten the months and days mixed up. Take care. Peace

  11. I am sorry you are missing your computer. They do let us down at very inconvenient times.

When my cousin was living the life of sailing the caribbean, she used to make cards and notepaper on her laptop and small printer. It used Window's 95. (ancient OS now). She sold these to make a little money.

  12. I almost always buy HPs. And don't have much trouble at all with them!

I don't like things too busy either...but with 3 little hooligans it's hard to find down time. Right now all my down time is spent making costumes.....then presents......then it'll be on to the next project!

  13. Good Morning Mary. I have always loved your cards that you have made. You do such a wonderful job on them. We live in a small town and sometimes I wish we lived out in the country. Seems like people who live in small towns, knows everyones business but their own. But one thing I do like about a small town is that the crime rate is less than in the larger town. That's not to say there isn't any crime in small towns, it's just not as bad. Me and hubby have Dell computers now and we absolutely love them and wouldn't have anything else. We used to buy from Gateway, but now that we stared using Dell, we love Dell products. They sell them at Wal-Marts around here now. I have a Dell Desktop and Dell Laptop for myself and hubby has a Dell Desktop as well. We bought the girls a Laptop from Wal-Mart last year for Christmas and I forget what brand it is, but they have been good ones for the girls to have. I sure hope they can get your computer all fixed for you. Take care my friend and have a great week. May GOD continue to BLESS you and yours.

    Love and hugs,

    Karen H.

  16. Hello again, Mary...

I am going to be offline for a few days so I guess I've been here...

    BOO!

Just didn't want you to think the gruesome monster had taken over. Didn't want you left high and dry with Frankenstein after Halloween. :o)

  17. Halloween

    The night is dark
    and the goblins are out,
and the witches and black cats
    are prowling about.

    And costumed creatures
    the strangest I've seen,
    are knocking on doors
    'cause tonight's Halloween!

Happy Halloween dear Mary:-) I love the postcards, cards and tiles you've been making!! So gorgeous. I will have to go take a look at your Etsy shop and see what goodies you have for sale:-)

My Toshiba laptop has gone to laptop heaven, it was forever overheating and the tech guy suspects that's what fried my motherboard. I now have an ACER laptop and love it, it hardly even gives off heat at all. Let's hope it lasts more than a year like my Toshiba one! lol xoxo

  19. Good Morning Mary. I have been seeing what all you have been busy doing when you post them on Facebook. Your work is just wonderful and all the things are very beautiful. Either you or Pea has sent some of that cold, Canadian air down to us. LOL. I've been running 2 heaters since it has turned colder. I use my Central Furnace and been using the pad heater in the hall as well. Take care my friend and hope you have a great week. May GOD continue to Bless you and yours.

    Love and hugs,

    Karen H.

  20. The cards are very nice. My cousin, while spending 5 years sailing around the Caribbean made lovely cards and stationary to earn a little money. She managed this on a laptop with a small portable printer both dating from 1995, so there was not a lot of power.

If you yearn for the quiet life, you should live where I do. I discourage anyone from phoning me and have actually asked the Telephone company if they have phones that you can call out on but take no incoming calls. I can't remember when someone last knocked on my door.
