Birds in my Yard

Since we've moved, I've been able to lure a few birds to my yard. A large evergreen tree hangs over the shed in the back yard. It is there that the cardinals come to rest. I don't see them often, but they are so pretty and when I do catch a glimpse of them, I'm delighted.

We have a pair of mourning doves that we put seed out for. Sometimes they come alone and sometimes they bring their friends with them. The most I've counted at one time were eight. I do like having them around.
We also get the odd blue jay. I love to hear these birds squawking and protesting. They will actually fight over the bird seed. They don't come as often as I like, but we do seem them a few times a week.
Birds bring color, song and beauty into the yard. I'm thankful for my feathered friends. I wish they would spend more time here. I'm hoping that this summer song birds will visit. I have to do more research to find out how to draw them. That's my winter project for this year.

  2. Great bird shots, Mary! Just put up a feeder and fill it with black oil sunflower seeds, and they will come! But it's costing me a fortune to feed all the birds coming to my feeders!

Have a great rest of the week!

  3. Renie, we've had a couple of feeders up but can't keep the squirrels out of them. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

  5. Beautiful pictures and birds. I have been watching and taking pictures of birds on our back deck all morning. They are eating us out of house and home, too. We have lots of blue jays, they are so pretty.

  6. The Cardinals are gorgeous. We dont't have them here. We do have Stellar's Jays and they are pretty, especially when the sun shines on them making their feathers look metalic blue.

  7. I keep bird feeders out year round. We don't have many colorful birds though. We did have yellow finches pass through about a week ago. Red and White Breasted Nuthatches, Juncos, Chickadees and a variety of woodpeckers are standard for the forest and it's cool when other birds migrate through. You photos are gorgeous. What a blessing!

  8. I'm sure glad you came over to visit with me....I don't often read my Google Reader any more, no time....so I just visit those who leave comments these days. And I would have missed all the beautiful birds in your yard. We don't have blue jays here, so that was a special treat!!
