Green Thumb Sunday and more...

Green Thumb Sunday is a time when bloggers share a sort of show and tell about something that is growing in their home or garden. Traci at As the Garden Grows is the host. Thanks, Traci.

Above is a photo of the forget-me-nots that grew in my garden last spring. I love forget-me-nots and each year I have a few more. One year mine all died out for some reason. One day when I was at a garage sale, the lady gave me an entire cardboard box of these beautiful flowers and now they are growing in my garden once more.

Yesterday my grandson, Brandon and I spent the day together. In the morning he watched his favorite shows on TV and I read the paper and tinkered around a little. Then, we headed out for some lunch at MacDonalds. We don't often eat there but it was a nice treat and we had a nice conversation.

When lunch was finished, we headed over to my mother's. She had phoned Brandon last week and asked him if he would come and help her put an outdoor ornament together. She'd purchased it and wasn't sure how to assemble it. It is a beautiful train that lights up. Brandon had it together in about 15 minutes and was very proud of himself. And rightfully so. He loves building things.

My niece and her son, Griffyn, were visiting Mom. Griffyn will be five months old on the 28th and he is such a good baby. He's growing quickly and is very alert and smart. I forgot the camera and could kick myself. Brandon and Griffyn had a great time interacting. Brandon did a good job of entertaining him. Griffyn adores Brandon. It's too bad they can't see each other more often, but they live out of town.

Anni, over at Hootin' Anni's had this cute "which character are you" meme posted this morning. Anni was Mrs. Claus, so I wondered what character I would be. Just for fun, I took the test and found out that I was an elf. Here is what I saw:

Merry Christmas! You're An Elf!

Like one of Santa's right-hand helpers, you're dedicated and devoted. From their pointy shoes to their pointy ears, the elves, and people like you, are The Man in Red's secret to success. Do you really think one person can make all those toys, harness the reindeer, wrap all those gifts, and get around the world in one night.

Like any elf, you're an industrious type who's probably ready and willing to lend a helping hand wherever you can. But that doesn't mean you're not up for a little mischief from time to time. Maybe you've got some mistletoe related antics up your sleeve or a funny gift waiting for someone under the tree. And who can blame you? Everyone needs to be reminded of the lighter side of things. Whatever you get up to, your sense of humour and good-natured fun will bring a whole host of smiles to any festive gathering.

Have a wonderful Sunday. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. I love forget-me-nots. I planted some seeds in a planter last year, and not one of them came up. Either the seeds were old, or they are not suited to our climate. I just keep trying for anything blue!

  2. Aiyana,

I find that forget-me-nots are difficult to get started. Try buying the plants and starting them that way. Then you will have them year after year. Mine grow in clay in one flowerbed and in clay in another, so the soil doesn't make a lot of difference. I wish you good luck starting some next year.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  3. Mary,

What pretty flowers! Sounds like you had a great day. Brandon is a wonderful great grandson. I bet your Mom really appreciated his expertise in getting the train set up. I bet he had fun doing it! Hmmm, I think Brandon is like his Grandma, an elf who goes through life spreading joy and laughter!

    Hugs,

  4. Tina,

I'm not sure if Brandon and I are elves, but we do try to bring smiles to the faces of people we know. Thanks for your kind comments, my friend.

    Hugs and blessings,

  6. Marcel,

Brandon loves building of any kind. He told me he wasn't sure he could do it. I told him he could and he did.

    Thanks for dropping by.

  7. I love to get my hands in the soil. I'm don't think I real have a favor flower for say.
Every spring I pick up a few plants or bulbs to add.
Then in fall I get a few extra bulbs to add to place.

  9. Good Evening Mary,
Your Forget-Me-Nots are beautiful. My Mother-In-Law loves those also. She is a big flower grower. She plants them every year. I don't. I don't have anywhere to plant them here at our other house. Years ago, I used to have alot of house plants and they would really grow. I've just never had any luck with outside flowers. I'm glad you and your grandson had a good time. It has been raining here all day. The girls go back to school tomorrow. Well, take care my friend and have a Blessed evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Hugs,
    Karen H.

I'm glad that you enjoy gardening. I do as well.

    Denise,

Yes, we had a great time. Brandon was amazing with the baby and he responded so nicely to Brandon's efforts to entertain him.

    Karen,

Have you ever though of container gardening? Many flowers will grow outdoors in containers and make a beautiful showing.

Thank you, Ladies for your comments.

    Blessings,
    Mary

I hate it when I forget my camera too...lol...but sometimes you just have to lock the good times into your memory banks!

I wanted to see what Christmas Character I was but there must have been some sort of glitch in the system as I tried and it would not tell me *pout*

    Have a great day sweetie!
