Show and Tell Friday - Florida Trip Day 5

Show and Tell

This is my first Show and Tell Friday since before Christmas and it's nice to be back on track. It's easy to find something to show and tell about today. I know you're all looking forward to hearing more about our trip and seeing more photos.

We got up in the morning and were glad to leave the Days I*n. We drove a little way up the road and had breakfast at the Golden Corral. If you've never eaten there you are missing a real treat. There was every kind of breakfast food imagineable and it was delicious.

After breakfast we took the boys mini golfing. No one wanted to go to Disney on New Year's Eve. I have been there before and it is a mad house. Wall to wall people and you can't move. Brandon sometimes has difficulties with crowds and I knew he definitely would have with one of that proportion. The golf course resembled an old western gold mine and we had our choice of either an easy or difficult course. Being the mini golfers that we are, we chose the difficult one.

After mini golfing, we went back to 27 Highway and went to Wal M*rt. The boys found more of the Disney Pixar Cars that they collect and of course there were a couple that they didn't have. They bought those and I tried to buy some gravol. No such luck.

We stopped at a couple of gift shops and looked around because check in time at the R*mada wasn't until three. We had lunch and just spent our time checking out attractions. Finally it was time to go to the hotel, where I had made the reservation the day before. When we got there we were told it wouldn't be ready for another hour or two. That didn't please me as we were all tired. We looked around their gift shop, discovered an indoor pool and tried to put in time. At 4:30, the room was ready. We got our key and headed up to the room - a kids' suite. The boys were ecstatic. This is what they saw:

The sign said "No Adults." They got a real kick out of that. Of course they'd like to be a little independent and have no adults around. Can you blame them. They sometimes get into it with one another, but at times I hear them laughing and giggling. They have their own little secrets as all brothers and sisters should.
The room had a lovely mural of animals. Here is Brandon watching TV. The hotel actually had a kids' station and the boys hadn't seen much TV since we left home. Jordan moved just as I took the shot and you can see his shoulder in the front left.
Jordan claimed the top bunk. He's always wanted to sleep in a top bunk but since the boys have their own rooms, there's no need for bunk beds. He was thrilled in the beginning but then wanted to know if he could fall out. LOL
Here are the boys watching TV. Jordan has that pesky little penguin in his hands that he bought at the Newport, Kentucky Aquarium. It was cute and he bought it with his own money, but about two hours down the road we found out it squeaked. Grrr! It ended up being our mascot and sitting on the dashboard when we were driving. A very important job for a penguin. Grandpa told them he would give it flying lessons by tossing it out the window. There were times when Grandma also felt like it. Now penguin is home where Mom and Dad have to listen to it. LOL
For New Year's Eve, we decided to stay in the hotel and go swimming in the heated indoor pool. It was wonderful. Everyone was more relaxed when we headed back to the room. Brandon was asleep by 10. Jordan wanted to stay up to see the New Year in, but didn't quite make it. He fell asleep at about 11:30. It was a wonderful way to spend New Year's Eve.

I hope you enjoyed my show and tell this week. To participate or if you'd like to learn more about Show and Tell Friday, be sure to visit Kelli at There is No Place Like Home.

  2. Aren't vacations fun! Our last trip was to Disneyland. Hard to go with eight kids, to be sure, but well worth it!

    Have a great day!

  3. Katherine,

If I had known that penguin squeaked, it would have been left in the gift shop of the aquarium. LOL It about drove us nuts, but the boys had so much fun with it. Jordan said, "I don't know how one little penguin can bring so much fun." Pengy, as Grandpa named him, was a great mascot though. He got us home safe and sound.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  4. Mommy,

Eight??? I almost was driven to to distraction by two. You should get a medal for taking eight kids to Disneyland. Just kidding! I'm sure you had lots of fun.

  5. Good Afternoon Mary,
"THANK YOU" for sharing such another day of your vacation. There used to be Golden Corral's around here, but I haven't seen or heard of one in a very long time. I have eaten at one of them before and they do have some good food. Don't you just hate it when someone tells you something will be ready at a certain time and it's not? Makes me so mad. LOL. I love the Kids Suite. That is so neat. I have never seen anything like that before. I know the boys enjoyed having their own little suite. I know what you mean about the noisy Penguin. I thought that was funny that Grandpa wanted to give it flying lessons. LOL. Our youngest daughter, just yesterday afternoon, came home from School with some kind of instrument that she had gotten in music to practice on, and oh my goodness, was it loud. LOL. I told her quickly to take it in her room and close the door if she was going to play it. My nerves aren't what they once were, especially when it comes to loud noises and such. I don't blame yall for staying at the hotel on New Year's Eve. I don't like big crowds either. We just stayed home and had a good time here. Take care my friend and have a great day. I enjoyed your "Show & Tell Friday" very much. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  6. Karen,

The boys protested loudly when Grandpa said he was going to give Pengy flying lessons. LOL They had a lot of fun with that penguin on the trip and are having more with it now. Oh well, Mom and Dad can listen to it squeak for a while.

We had a nice swim and the heated pool was about 105 degrees. It was more like a warm bath and that is the kind of water I love. I'm not much of a swimmer, but do enjoy going into the water if it's warm.

As we get older, our nerves won't take what they will when we're young. I can understand you asking your daughter to play that instrument in her room.

The boys loved their little suite and also having their own tv helped. It has a kids' channel and when we weren't out and about they got to see some of their favorite show.

Take care and thanks for stopping by.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  7. I love the penguin story. I think a mascot is a very good job for it when you are driving. Your Disney trip sounds like lots of fun. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Georgiagirl,

Yes, the penguin story is funny. We had a ball with it. The first time it squeaked, I almost had a heart attack. Grandpa isn't near as patient as Grandma, but he did okay. We made kind of a game of it.

Thanks for dropping by. I hope to see you again soon.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  11. Denise,

That was a pretty cool room. It was kind of pricey the first night but then the rates dropped when the busy season was over. I couldn't believe it was only $59 per night. That was as reasonable as anywhere else we found. We really got messed up with our reservations, but it all worked out. God is always watching.

    Mary

  13. How nice! I have never seen a kids suite before. We visited Newport KY and really enjoyed it.

  14. rpia,

I had never seen a kids' suite either, but it was really nice. It gave both the boys and us a little privacy and we knew where they were and what they were doing. They enjoyed having their own tv and their own beds.

    Thanks for dropping by.

I'm so enjoying my virtual vacation with you!

  16. Hi Mary,

I had no idea that there was such a thing as a "kids's suite"! What a wonderful idea. I love the photos you took of the suite and the boys.

Your penguin story is very funny. What parent or grandparent hasn't been through that! Great idea to make it the mascot when driving. LOL

This story reminded me. My brother always told his daughter that some day, she would find out about payback. Well, this was the Christmas. He bought his grandson a drum set!! LOL

I look forward to the next installment of your vacation.
    Have a great weekend!

    Hugs,
    Tina

  17. Racket making toys annoy me too, Mary. Even when I was a lot younger I couldn't stand anything that squeaked, whistled, honked, talked or that could be pounded on like a drum. I've not gotten any more tolerant of them since I've gotten older and Emmy's come along. ;o)

Your New Year's Eve sounds a lot like mine, except I was here at home at the computer and Lamar was watching the ball drop in Times Square on TV in the living room. We lead such exciting lives, don't we? ;o)

Have a great weekend, Mary, and thank you so much for the award. I'll post it proudly on my awards page and mention it in my next post.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  18. Tammy,

The room was so cool! The boys loved it. They'd never stayed anywhere like it before. I think they will always remember that room.

I'm glad you're enjoying the virtual vacation. I wish I could have taken all my blogging friends with me.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  19. Hey, I enjoyed reading about this part of your trip. I hate it when I want to get in my room and it isn't ready.
I know you have lots of memories written in your little journal to savor.
I keep a journal and have for over a decade. I like to go back and read the old ones sometimes.

  20. Tina,

When the desk clerk told me that they had a Kids' Suite available for the next evening, I had to ask what that was. I had never heard of it either. The boys did love it though and another time I will ask for one.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  21. Diane,

Our nerves aren't what they once were. I didn't mind it at first but after a while it became VERY annoying. That's why I voted for Pengy to be our mascot. He did get us home safely sitting on the dashboard and keeping his eye on the crazy drivers. LOL

We had a swim and enjoyed some snacks on New Year's Eve. Brandon knew he wouldn't enjoy himself with the huge crowds and I certainly didn't want him to experience a meltdown because of it. Asperger's is complex and he is doing so much better. I wouldn't want him to regress.

You are welcome for the award and very deserving. Be safe and relax this weekend. I look forward to your Sunday dinner post.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  22. Mama Bear,

I wasn't exactly thrilled when the room wasn't ready, but do understand it has to be cleaned. However, if they say 3, they should mean 3, especially for a kids room. The boys were real tired.

I have kept journals for the boys since they were born. I have a lock of their hair in an envelope in the back of their first journals. One day they will read them and learn when he said their first word, took their first step etc.

    Thanks for dropping by.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  23. What an enjoyable vacation you had! That was a neat hotel room, and an indoor pool! Nice!

I enjoyed the story of the penguin mascot, LOL! :)

  24. Mommy,

I'm glad you enjoyed the bit about Pengy. The boys were playing with it last night and now can't find it. I asked Mom is she made it disappear, but she said no. They will find it, I'm sure. It's in the house and they've probably laid it down somewhere.

Thanks for dropping by. I always enjoy your visits and am glad you enjoyed the photos of vacation.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  28. Deena,

I think the only reason I got the boys to come back home was because they had Christmas presents that they hadn't had much time to play with. They had a wonderful time and enjoyed their kids' suite.

Hope you are doing well and good luck on my giveaway draw.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  29. I use to love buying squeaky toys for my niece and nephews when they were little...I could send them home with them and drive my brothers crazy! hehe Revenge is sooo sweet!!! lol I so enjoyed reading about your New Year's Eve..don't blame you for not wanting to spend it at Disney. Sounds like it would have been crazy there. Love that kids room, no wonder the boys were thrilled:-) I've never seen anything like that so I'm wondering if that's just in the States? To be a kid again:-) xoxo

  30. First I just have to say that ya'll are just full of energy. I am not sure I could have managed this trip. We did disney and the surrounding parks for 5 days and I thought I was going to die. My hats off to you.
Pretty cool hotel--I like the kids room. Nice to give the parents their own space.

  32. OMGoodness....what a true 'gift' for the boys' pleasure! How awesome is that? This is too fun. I'll take the squeaky penguin that you're talking about. Too fun.

It's been a while since I've been able to stop by...busy, cleaning. I am not looking forward to the next room to clean....ugh, the books...oh the books, books, books!

It's good to take some time off and visit with my friends and catching up on their blogs...as is with me dropping by here!!!
