This & That

Isn't this the prettiest picture you've ever seen? I would love to live in this place. It is quaint and looks warm and cozy.

I have received this award several times in the last few weeks. Thank you Mike, Mama Bear and Deborah. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I would like to pass this on to everyone that I visit on a regular basis and all those who visit me. I have made many blogging friends over the past year and three months and I value each of you. Enjoy!

Yesterday I had to make a trip to the drugstore. Hubby warmed up the van and drove me as I was feeling terrible and was freezing for some reason. The drugstore had a book sale, so while I was there I picked up a package of four Christmas books for over the holidays. Bargain price at $9.99 for all four. These books are usually about that price each so I was ecstatic.

I'm way behind this year. Usually at the end of November, I write hubby's card for him and also do my own. This year, we had just said our goodbyes to Aunt May and I didn't get them done. The cards shown here are only the ones for hubby to give out to his clients. He needs 232 this year. I sat down tonight and wrote 72 of them, but I still have a long way to go. These have to be ready by next Saturday, so you know what I'm going to be doing this week. But really, I enjoy doing them. I also have my own cards to get ready to mail to all my family and blogging friends. I am determined to get it done, but possibly some cards will only arrive at their destination just under the wire.

In other news, please pray for the families of the three Canadian soldiers who were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. What a tragedy. Their families are going to have a difficult Christmas this year.

Please be sure to pick up the button from my sidebar that I made for all of my friends and visitors. If you would like a larger version of the bottom, check out yesterday's post.

Thanks to all of you who took up my Baking Challenge from yesterday. You will each be blessed as you bless those who are less fortunate this year. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. I remember my mother sending out 100 cards. That was back when the postage was 2 cents. Now cards and postage are as expensive as a gift!

  2. The families of the Canadian soldiers are in my prayers. All troops serving our countries and their families are in my prayers.

Where can you put another award? Wow, you have a lot.

My father was a minister so they sent cards to members where they were and members of previous churches and family and friends. They would set up a card table and both of them would address and write notes on the many, many cards. I can remember both of them laughing and enjoying this project so much. They would share fun stories with us about certain people as that card came up to be addressed. It was a great time for the whole family. That table stayed up until all the cards were in the mail. Oh, looks like I have a post of my own here:)

  3. Oh yes.....I would love that mountain retreat too. As a summer home tho, no snow for me. LOL

Sorry, always so sorry to hear about the countrymen losing their lives over such a unnecessary war. I just hate that.

Oh my gosh....that is a LOT of cards to get ready to send. You have my sympathies. I don't think I could do that many and get them all done. More power to you.

I'll grab your gift and put it on my trophy blog. Thanks so, so very much. It's a perfect gift for the season.

Happy Saturday Mary. REST and enjoy those books.

  5. That picture of the little house in the woods is just beautiful and I've always dreamed of living in a place like that!

Congratulations on the well deserved award, my friend:-)

Omigosh, Mary, that sure is a lot of cards to address...good thing you enjoy doing that! lol I did all mine last week and got them mailed out on Thursday so I was glad to get that done.

That certainly was a great deal on the books. I love the drug stores for that, they always have great sales on various things like that.

I was so saddened to hear the news that 3 more Canadians have been killed in Afghanistan. That's 100 now...100 too many.

We're having another snowstorm as I type this. Sigh. I can't believe all the snow we have already and it's not even officially Winter yet! xoxo

  10. You will be busy addressing all those cards! I only have about 75 to do and thought I had a lot.

So sad about the soldiers. I'll be glad when all our soldiers come home. The sooner the better in my opinion.

Have a blessed Sunday, dear Mary. :o)

    Much love,

    Diane

  11. I haven't done my cards yet, either. I am not sending as many as I used to and some of them will include a letter so it takes time. Maybe I'll get started this afternoon.
Yesterday, I baked 8 mini loaf fruitcakes. I will include one in our gift box for the family we adopted. I am going shopping with another club member on Tuesday for the children's gifts. Fun!
I'm going to give a fruitcake to my new neighbors, I've met. All of them will be given away except maybe one or two for us. I had a lttle batter left and made 6 muffins. Yum! Just had one for breakfast.

  12. Well, I have gotten all my cards in the mail....and my hand was tired..but I didn't have anywhere near what you have to do.
And yes, yours is on its way. ;)

We have also done all our baking and delivered them. We have one more to do for a young single Mom...she just had a baby last week. We are still working on what we will do for her.
I love the picture of the cabin. Can that be my new house? :)
