Making the Porch a Tranquil Place

I didn't have the boys today, they were with Mom at the swimming pool. Hubby and I have been so busy getting the gardens into shape that we had completely neglected the side porch. Today the man up the road stopped by to see if there were any odd jobs he could do for enough money to buy a pack of cigarettes. We had put a few things on the porch that needed to go to the dump...the old microwave and an old sewing machine that was beyond repair. So they loaded them into the car and away they went.

When they came back, I asked the man if he would carry my bird fountain up from the basement. It's rather heavy and hubby isn't to be lifting it. I didn't get it up last year and really wanted to be able to enjoy it. So up it came.

I'm a lover of bluebirds and when I saw this fountain a few years ago, I decided to give it a home where it would be well-loved. Hubby cleaned it up and installed the pump. I filled it with water and we got it running.
Here is a closer look. I really enjoy sitting on the side porch in the evening and listening to the tranquil sound of water. Now Dakota and I can sit outside in the evening and enjoy the fountain...the trickle of water is so soothing...balm for the soul.

  7. I'd love to be able to have a water garden, and even a small fountain would be wonderful. As you say, the sound of trickling water is so soothing and peaceful.

  8. Good for you and for him - except for the cigarette part!

  10. There's proof that some people will do anything for a cigarette. :) I'm just funning around. Although the spell checker here doesn't seem to think so. Nonetheless, I'm glad you got some better use out of your porch. Enjoy. Oh and maybe you could light a candle or two as well to make it even cosier.

  11. How lovely, I think the sound of running water is so soothing. Thanks for visiting my blog. Was your pastor in charge of Spring Bay camp?

  12. I agree! A water feature in the garden is so important and the birds will drink and play there if it isn't too deep. I suppose with your winters, you have to put it away. We leave ours running all year. The water doesn't feeze as long as it is moving.
So wish I had a handy man to do a few odd jobs. Honey Bear is home so seldom, I hate asking him to do things for me. I have a few boxes that need to come into the house for unpacking and the seats are still out of my van. I also need the treadmill brought in. I hate that I can't do these things myself.
I saw a lady up on a ladder trimming her shrubs yesterday. That isn't something I've ever tackled. Some things just seem to be man's job.

Aren't water fountains a blessing? Your is beautiful.

We have a fish pool with a turtle spewing water across the pool...It's so relaxing to sit in the swing and hear the sound of the water...

  15. Your fountain is so pretty. I have some bird baths but not with fountains. I hope to get the pump working in my pond soon. It has a fountain and a waterfall. I am making a sitting area under the old apple tree and will be able to hear it from there if I ever get time to sit for a few minutes. Whenever I'm outside I see hundreds of things that need to be done so don't sit for long.

  16. Mary the fountain is lovely. And the gentleman turned up just in time to give you the pleasure of lending him a hand and making your side porch a lovely place to sit.

    God bless.

  20. Since Mimi's illness, I have been reading but not commenting. I like the sound of running water. I have a little fountain in the front hall I turn on sometimes. I prefer real running water. Someday I hope to live near a Creek again. I grew up with one in our back yard. Peace

Oh I can imagine the wonderful sound! Next year I want a water feature near the front porch for the very reason. Charlie Pride, I remember his songs well. I'm thinking of Cananda today with our chilly weather. They just announced how below normal our temps have been in Indiana. Well you have a delightful weekend, Lori

  25. Love your fountain. We recently put one of those radios that has sounds of the forest, streams, oceans etc. in our bedroom. They are kind of neat. I went into the bedroom the other day and heard birds singing, it kind of took me by surprise.
