Things Are Looking Up

It's been a while since I've posted again. Been busier than a one-armed paper hanger for the last week or so. Along with my Etsy business, I've started to try to get my house in shape for the holidays. It's really gone downhill since my heart surgery.

Jordan came over yesterday (Friday) after school to help out and stay overnight. We had hamburgers for supper and then he helped me organize the vintage items that I sell on Etsy. We tore boxes apart and put other things in boxes, labeled them and then ate a bag of popcorn and chilled.

This morning we relaxed a little. He enjoyed a couple games of chess on the computer while I read the newspaper and had my morning coffee. Then we went and picked up Brandon and then the work began.

Hubby and Brandon loaded some boxes in the van to take to the dump. I'm a bit of a pack-rat and this stuff needed to go. They moved out the stove, fridge, washer and dryer and cleaned under them. Jordan washed down the appliances. I went through some drawers and sorted all the stuff. Found Canadian Tire money, lots of junk that went straight into a garbage bag, some things I had misplaced and my old student's card and license. The boys got quite a kick out of seeing Grandma in her younger days.

So, the kitchen is looking much better and so is my living room. Still have a long way to go before our new kitchen floor gets laid. The old one has been in this house since we moved here and it is worn all the way through in some places. I'm ashamed to let visitors come in the house. We picked a black and white one-piece flooring that looks like tile. I'm going for a retro 50s look. The walls and cupboards will be white and the trim red. I started this in the spring when we installed the dropped tile for the ceiling, but then had the heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery, so haven't been up to doing much since.

I paid for all that I did today, but it was worth it. Things are looking good.

  2. Good to get back in touch with you after such a long time.... Was without internet for almost a year and a half.... As I said in the email I sent you, I am updating my blogspot, and plan and starting to use it.... Don't know why I even set it up if I was not going to use it... Love this page and looking forward to coming back often and getting caught up on your post... Didn't realize it is as late as it is... I had better go to bed.... so I'll send some more smiles and hugs...... Later...

  3. Well, you teased us...I was hoping at the end you'd be sharing the photo of "Grandma in her younger days". I bet the boys enjoyed helping you both.

I emailed you .... let's see .... Thursday, I believe and haven't heard back from you in reply. I'm wondering if you rec'd it. I know how emails go and get lost at times.

  6. Good Morning Mary! I am so glad that you are feeling better and that things are on the uphill climb. We too are doing house projects that have been waiting for several years now... We have painted the outside of the house and it is BEAUTIFUL...... We are going to put shutters on it and paint the trim and then I will take pictures.......

Things here are better and I am gaining strength each day and seems that I have begun to rest....... I am fixing to put a lot of stuff on my Etsy and get busy.......

I have so missed everyone here and am going to blog each day again like I once did... So many ladies are gone from here and it makes me sad........

Glad to hear that the boys are well and and enjoying you and their granddad...

    Love ya much!

  7. Good Morning Dear Mary. My you have been a busy lady haven't you. Just don't overwork yourself tho. I know your Kitchen is going to look wonderful when you are done with it. I like the fact that you are doing the 50's Retro thing and hope that you will post some pictures of it when you are all done with it. The holidays are fast approaching. Our Thanksgiving is next week on the 25th. We have decided to just have a small Thanksgiving here at home with just the 4 of us this year. We will also be doing some cleaning and rearranging that weekend as well. That is when we will put up our Christmas Tree. I have been seeing all of your beautiful work that you post on FB and you are doing a wonderful job on all of them. Glad you had the Grandsons to help you out and that yall got to spend some quality time with each other. Take care my friend and hope you have a great upcoming week. Take some time for yourself and don't over do either.

    Love and hugs my friend,

    Karen H.

  8. Mary
So glad you came back to blog land even for a day. The grandsons were so helpful and you are blessed to have such good help. I too need a new kitchen floor but with the holidays looming in the near future, I plan to put off everything until after the first of the year, just like Miss Scarlett. I will think about that tomorrow. Peace

  14. Hello dear Mary, I'm finally back to blogging after taking a break to renovate my living room...glad that's over with!! lol I know it's a lot of work to declutter and clean but as you say, it's so worth it once it's done. Right now I'm trying to get my recroom downstairs decluttered and have already brought quite a few boxes of stuff to the charity store. I'll also be bringing some stuff to the auction so that they can be auctioned off. I'm hoping to have it all done by next week so that I can then concentrate on Christmas decorating and baking!!! xoxo
