My Weight Battle

Last year I lost 26 lbs. between December and April when I had my heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery. Because I was inactive for so long during the recuperation process, I gained it all back and a few lbs. to boot. Some of it was also from water retention. We had a terrible time getting my meds right. I was either retaining fluid or I was passing out from too many meds. At this time the meds are working perfectly and I am beginning to lose weight again. Over the last few months, I have lost 6 lbs., but it's coming off very slowly. That isn't a bad thing, it's just annoying to get on the scales week after week and see no difference in the numbers. This week, however, I did lose another lb., which is great. So the battle continues. All I can do is continue to try. I'm eating better and have a lot more energy and though the lbs., are coming off slowly, I am losing inches.

  1. Good for you! It's such a battle. I've been working on it too - so far have lost 26.5 pounds and am keeping at it!

  2. I can imagine it was discouraging to gain it back, especially when it was due to things beyond your control like the medications. But you are doing great! The experts say slowly is the best way. I think the inches lost are more important than the pounds. Muscle takes up less space, but weighs more. So you may actually be doing better than you realize!! Way to go, Mary!

  3. Let the loss of inches fuel your positive feelings and not the number on the scale. I know how hard it is as it has been a lifetime struggle for me...it is very discouraging to be hungry all week and see no loss at weigh in... but it does pay off in healthy eating...in my case, my irritable bowel doesn't bother me as much when I'm eating right.
    Good luck!

  7. Mary
Glad you have started losing weight again but sometimes it is much better to lose inches. Also, remember firm is heavier than flab. I have started going to the Y when Mimi naps and I just want to have more energy. If I lose weight well that will be a give me. I hope your move goes well and since we share the house with Mimi I understand the difference it is gonna make in your lives. Peace be with you.

  8. I'm glad for you, Mary! With your health better and a good diet, your weight will eventually correct itself.

I always get more excited over losing inches than with actual pounds. I stand in front of the mirror and say "Yeah!"
