Florida Trip Day 7 January 2/08

I woke up at 6:30am, got ready and headed down to the lobby. I wanted to check on all of my blogging friends and I figured I would be able to get on the free computer at that time of the morning. I was right.

By the time the boys got up and we had breakfast, time was marching on. We headed to Disney to take in a day at the Magic Kingdom. We wore our winter coats. It was cold, even by our standards -48 degrees F. Not exactly what you'd expect in Florida. People had on gloves, hats, scarves and winter coats. It didn't help any that there was a brisk wind.

The entrance to Disney World
We parked in Sleepy and were close enough to walk to the park gates. The tram was just heading out when we got there.Just inside the gates, who did we bump into but Mary Poppins.

The train station from outside the park.
Main Street USA all decked out for Christmas

And another of Main Street USA. Beautiful decorations.
Cinderella's CastleCharacters from Song of the South just outside Splash Mountain.

I couldn't imagine that the boys wanted to go on Splash Mountain when it was so cold and windy, but they did. And they did get a little wet. They asked to go again, but I said no. I was afraid they would get sick. They did go on Big Thunder Mountain. We checked out the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean that we'd missed three years ago, but the lines were 2 hours long. So that was out!

It was so cold that we spent most of our time buying hot drinks and looking in souvenir shops to get warm. We saw the Tiki Show, which is talking and singing animated birds and the boys and Grandpa climbed up the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House.

We headed for the souvenir shops again and Jordan bought himself a Mickey Mouse watch as a souvenir. Good choice. Brandon wanted to wait. He's more careful with his money and wants to look around before he chooses. Another good choice.

We left the park around 6:30. It was just too darn cold to do anything. Even shutterbug Grandma behaved herself and didn't take many photos that day. We certainly weren't going to stay for the fireworks.

We had dinner and when we got back to the hotel, Dwight and the boys went swimming. After that I tucked them in bed and before long we were fast asleep. A great end to a very cold day.

Note: I'm not going to post anything more about our Florida trip for a few days. Not sure what exactly I'll be posting, but I'll think of something. I'll continue with Florida photos and stories later in the week.~Blessings, Mary~

  4. I've been to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA (located about a half hour from me) but I've never been to Disney World. I was surprised to see how similar they look, but I suppose that's by design. I'd say 48 degrees was pretty chilly all right. I don't know about anyone else, but I've enjoyed your posts about your trip (when taking breaks from tennis). I popped over today to let you know I have an award for you at Small Reflections. It's fun to do something for you at last!

  5. Mari,

If you have never been to Disney, you're missing out. Though I'm Disneyed out for a while, it is a wonderful experience.

The boys are already saving for their next vacation. I have no idea where it will be, but we have some work to do on the house first.

Thanks so much for dropping by on a regular basis. I always enjoy visiting with you.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  8. Julia was sitting by me as I was reading and she enjoyed seeing sights she had not seen in a long time.

Is your humidity level the same at home as it is in Florida? It seems to me that our humidity makes the cold colder.

  15. Good Morning Mary,
I just wanted to let you know that I posted about your Valentine's/200th Post Giveaway on my today's post. Hopefully some of my blogging friends will come and visit you. I enjoyed reading more about your vacation. I think I may have missed one that you posted over the weekend. I'll have to check that one out as well. I love the pictures of Disneyworld especially all decorated for Christmas. When we went in 1973, we rode the boat over to Disneyworld. I don't know if they still have that or not. On the way back, we took the Monorail because it started raining. And I do know how long those lines can be. We stood in line for 2 1/2 hours to see the Presiden't Wax Museum. My Dad was wanting to see it and it was so hot and people were passing out. We finally got in to see it tho and it was so real looking. We also went thru the Haunted Mansion. I will never forget that experience. LOL. The reason I said that is because you had to sit in a seat which held 2 people. I rode with my Dad. My Dad was a bit heavier set back then and we came to a part where the car took a dip and I thought we were turning over. LOL. I screamed really loud. Everyone just laughed at me. It was fun tho and I enjoyed it. We also went thru It's A Small World. That was really neat as well. We got there at 9:00a.m. when they opened up and by 3:00p.m. we had only seen those 3 things. Lines were just way too long. We left and went back to my Uncle's house where we were staying. We didn't get a chance to go back. I would so like to go back now and take our girls. I know they would enjoy it. "THANK YOU" for sharing another part of your vacation with us. I really enjoyed it. Mary Poppin's looks quite nice doesn't she? LOL. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  17. I LOVE Mary Poppins!!!! What a thrill this has been for me to have you share such a great time. I've enjoyed it thoroughly.

I know how cold it can get in winter near the ocean. It can be miserable for our 'old bones' with the cold winds off the water ....chilling!!!

I still hafta say that Disney World is a whole lot more fun looking that DisneyLAND in California.

    Have a terrific day Mary.

  21. Karen,

If you ever get the chance to go to Disney World, go in early January if you can. Lines aren't long and it's the best time to see everything. After the kids went back to school on the 7th, the lines were very short.

Jordan wanted to see President's Hall, but we didn't get to. I'm not sure why we missed it, but we did. I will be posting and telling about our second day at Magic Kingdom in a few days.

We took the ferry to Magic Kingdom and the monorail home because it was night and so cold. Neither had a long waiting line. In fact, we were on the ferry for 30 minutes just waiting for enough people for it to depart.

Take care, my friend, and thanks for your comments.

    Love and blessings,
    Mary

I'm glad you're enjoying our trip through my eyes. Disney was fun and something the boys will remember.

I have never been to Disneyland, but would like to see it one day just to compare the two.

Thanks for your nice comments. I always enjoy visiting with you.

  26. Katherine,

Disney is a lot of fun no matter your age. We did enjoy it. It was the wind that made it nasty. We did go back to Magic Kingdom a few days later and I have more photos I will post.

  28. obviously like your website but you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts.
A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very bothersome to inform the truth then again I will surely come again again.
