Sunday, January 13

It's Green Thumb Sunday, hosted by Tricia at As the Garden Grows. If you'd like to participate, just click on the link to find out how.

I'm going to cheat today. I've always been a bit of a rebel, but do try to follow the rules. However, I'm running out of plants of my own to show, so am going to post a photo that I took on vacation.

This lovely showering shrub is located in Sea World. I have a photo of one almost identical in Animal Kingdom. These flowers were beautiful. If anyone knows what they are called, please let me know. I should know, but can't think of it.

Take care and thanks for joining me for Green Thumb Sunday.

Flower Dividers

Some of you have been asking about Meeko. He did great while we were gone. He ate very little for the first four days and then only nibbled at his food. He drinks when we're away. The lady at the vets told us that he had a lot of fun in the dog run with the other dogs. He does enjoy his canine friends and I'm sure that he misses them now as much as he missed us when we first left. Being a pack animal, he likes to be with his pack, which is us. He's been very happy since we brought him home. Yesterday he followed us everywhere and was a little peeved when we went to drop off the boys' souvenirs and the things that we didn't unpack on Friday night. Today we went to the library and he was fine. He's back to his normal routine. However, I did catch him lying on the couch today.

He's looking a little forlorn here because he knows he's been caught. I didn't say too much to him - just told him to get down and he did. Like us, he wants to enjoy the comforts of home. I always feel guilty about leaving him when we go away, but traveling with a dog his size is next to impossible.

~Blessings, Mary~

  1. It's a Hibiscus rosa-sinensis variety. Not sure which, since there are so many hybrids. If you want to try to track it down, try the Monrovia Nursery website (www.monrovia.com).

  2. That's the name I was looking for - Hibiscus. Thank you so much for reminding me. For the life of me I couldn't remember the name.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I enjoyed visiting your blog and reading your post.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  3. Meeko is a beautiful dog. He looks so comfy on the couch. I hate to leave our dogs, even for a day. With Teddy's miserable eating habits and his heart condition, I'd be so worried about him.

  5. Welcome back, Mary! That's a beautiful flower. I didn't know what it is until just now.

I can just imagine how happy Meeko was to see his "pack" and how happy his pack was to see him!!
I always enjoy seeing photos of him - he is a beautiful dog!

    Hugs,
    Tina

  6. Lynne,

We sure missed Meeko when we were gone and I know he missed us too. You should have seen him when he got home. He was running in circles and followed us everywhere. He's been left before and knows when the suitcases come out and his pillow and toy goes with him to the vets that he's staying.

I have my daughter check on him while we're gone and the vet said he had a wonderful time with the other dogs, but I can tell he's glad we're home.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  8. Tina,

Hibiscus are beautiful plants. I love them, but had forgotten what they were called. I'm glad that garden wise guy reminded me.

Yes, Meeko is happy we're home and we sure did miss him. The boys were also happy to get home to see their dog. Buddy was crazy when the boys went into the house.

Always nice to see you here.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  9. I had a red hibiscus but it was planted too close to my red bud tree. Before I even realized it, it got too shady for it as the tree grew and eventually it just faded away. The people who lived here before us had planted it, and it was much too big a clump to move.

I thought it was either hibiscus or rose mallow. Rose mallow, both shades of pink and white, grows wild here and is in the same family as hibiscus.

Poor Meeko, he looks so comfortable on the couch! ;o)

Have a great new week as you settle back into your familiar routine, Mary. I'm looking forward to more of your vacation pics and commentary.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  10. Diane,

It's too bad your hibiscus died. I love them. There are many different colors. My friend in Arkansas has a lovely red one and when we were there in 2005, she had a bloom as big as a dinner plate.

Meeko does look comfy on the couch. He sneaks up there when he gets the chance, but knows when he's caught.

Thanks for dropping by. I will be over to visit soon.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  13. We call them rose of sharon, which is in the hibiscus family. I just have plain white ones and pink ones, but the double blossom ones are very full. You can find many pictures on the web, here are a few. Their seeds will sprout all over the yard and I have given away many seedlings.

  15. Good Morning Mary,
Those flowers are beautiful. I see where someone told you the name of it. I don't know much about flowers myself, so I wasn't going to be much help. Meeko looks so comfy on your couch. He does look like he's been caught. I know yall are glad to be back and to be around him again. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  16. The flower looks like a "Rose of Sharon" a form of hibiscus. If it's a bush that is...if it's a vine growing one, then it's a plant that starts with an "M" and I can't think of what they are off hand. But to me it looks like a Rose of Sharon.

AND! Meeko is just a find, dandy loving dog. He looks so comfy!!! You're mean to make him get down. rofl

I agree with Mr. Garden Wise Guy about the flower.
Meeko was hoping that because you had been gone you would relax your rules and let him have the couch.
Any size animal is hard to travel with and you did the best for him letting him run with the other dogs while you were gone.
    Nice to have you back.
    Peace.

  18. Marcel,

Thanks for the invitation. I'll be over to read the story. I wouldn't miss it.

    Susie,

Yes, it's good to be home and we're getting back into our normal routine.

    as we sail,

It didn't look like the rose of sharon we have here - ours are much tinier. Possibly they just grow things bigger in Florida. It's beautiful.

    Karen,

Glad to see you here this morning. I slept in even though I went to bed at 10:30, I didn't get up until almost 9. That tells me that I'm still tired from all the fun. ;-)

    Anni,

Meeko knew he was caught, but didn't move until I told him to get down. He really wasn't hurting anything. That couch needs replacing, but just don't want him to get into the habit of getting on furniture. He also likes to get on the bed with the boys. Like the kids, Meeko tries his boundaries.

Thanks Everyone for stopping by. I appreciate all of your kind comments.

    Blessings to all,
    Mary

    He's beautiful.

  20. Deborah,

Yes, he's been seeking attention lately and like a child he doesn't care if it is positive or negative. As soon as he got down, he came to be petted.

    Thanks for dropping by.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  21. Hibiscus are very easy to grow. They come is a wide variety of colors. But it never fails that as soon as I get one in the ground and over 7 ft--the frost comes and kills it.
