Show and Tell Friday and Update on Michelle

It's time for Show and Tell Friday. If you would like to participate, drop over to Kelli's at There's No Place Like Home.

This week I'd like to show you a few of my Boileau postcards from my collection. These and Fischer's cards are my favorites. Both of these men painted pictures of beautiful ladies. I hope you enjoy these cards.

Boileau was an illustrator who was born in 1864 and he loved to paint lovely ladies. The postcards above are some of his "Boileau Girls" for which he was famous. He always depicted the ladies in a dignified manner and they were all lovely. His work appeared on postcards, art prints, book and magazine covers, as well as beer trays and china. Boileau died in 1917, but his work lives on in these beautiful works of art.

This is another of my postcards, though the theme is very different. My daughter, Michelle, needs a good old fashioned spanking. Not really, but she did con the doctor into letting her come home today. She had met all the criteria for being discharged and when the doctor told her she had the green light for going home tomorrow, she asked her, "How about today?"

When the doctor found out that SIL would be home as well as Brandon, she allowed her to come home. She phoned me a 9:30 this morning and said, "I'm home." I was flabbergasted. She needed another day of rest at least. However, the boys were ecstatic that their Mom was home. I talked to her again this afternoon and she told me that everytime she got up Brandon asked her, "Shouldn't you be laying down, Mom?" He was taking good care of her.

Thanks once again to everyone for your prayers and support during Michelle's surgery and hospital stay. It really means a lot to me that you prayed for her and visited here for updates. I will continue to let you know how she is doing. She has to go to have her staples out on Monday morning at 10 am.

I went shopping today to pick up a couple of things and when walking through the store I found a few bargains. They had lovely large, soft pillows on for $5.99 and these pillows are perfect for when the boys come to stay. I picked up one to replace one that is old. It will be for Brandon. I bought Jordan one last year. It is a nice pillow and to get it for such a price was unbelieveable. They were clearing them out and the price tag was originally $29.99. What a deal.

I walked through the bedding department and then into towels. I'm needing some new ones and they had lovely soft ones there for $5.99. I bought two bath towels and two washcloths. That was a terrific buy as well. I couldn't believe it. I guess my magic number today was $5.99.

I was in the right place at the right time again today. A lady was pushing a cart with two bags in it and I asked if I could help her. Her husband was sleeping in the car and we got a big kick out of it because his head was back and his mouth was open. We giggled like girls. She told me she was 86. I told her (and it was true) I would have guessed her to be about 70. She was tickled. Though she didn't want me to help her into the car on the icy parking lot, I made sure she got into the car all right. We had a wonderful laugh together and the smiles made both of our day a little brighter. Please take every opportunity to do a random act of kindness. It's good for the soul. Have a wonderful day. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. Mary,

I came by earlier today to see how Michelle was doing, but was interrupted before I could post. It was wonderful to read about how well she is doing. Tonight's post is even better. I can imagine you must have been flabbergasted to hear that she was home. She is strong and determined, just like her Mom! Brandon is such a sweetheart!

I will be back again tomorrow. (Those postcards are beautiful). I just wanted to check on Michele and post to let you know you that Michelle and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers before I "toddle" off to bed.

    Love & Hugs,
    Tina

  4. I'm so glad to hear Michelle got the 'okay' to go home. Just hope that Brandon keeps her on her toes so to speak and makes her remember that she IS recovering!!! And keep her from 'over-doing' for a while longer.

Had to laugh at the line that she 'needs an old-fashioned spanking'...boy howdy, I've been there and WANTED to do that to our grown daughter too. Many times. :::giggles:::

  7. Good Afternoon Mary,
"PRAISE GOD" Michelle got to come home. I'm sure she will take it easy and not overdo herself. I imagine Brandon will make sure of that. Sometimes people rest and feel alot better in their own evvironment. I will still keep Michelle in my thoughts and prayers. I so love your beautiful cards. They are just so stunning. "THANK YOU" for sharing them with us. I must say you got some good bargains on your shopping trip. Looks like $5.99 was your lucky numbers. It is so hard to pass up such a good bargain these days. That was so nice of you to help the lady. I can just see the 2 of you laughing at her husband. I bet it was funny tho. Sometimes things like that is good for the soul. It is like milk, it does a body good. I am up for a bit and thought I would come and visit for a bit. I am fixing to have to take a couple of more pills and lay back down. My DH went to Memphis to pick up their Salt Lake City load and he will be back home in a little while. Take care my friend and have a great day/weekend. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  15. Dear Mary, your postcards are just wonderful and it was interesting to learn about the artist who drew these ladies. So great to hear that Michelle is now home but I can understand how you wish she had spent at least another day in the hospital. Sounds like she's being well taken care of, though:-) You certainly did find some fabulous bargains while out shopping...I just love those types of sales when you're not expecting it!! I went to Value Village today and bought 3 bags of art goodies...all kinds of little flowers, ribbons, lace, etc. for $1.99 each:-) My prayers continue for Michelle on her recovery process! xox

  17. Oh what lovely post cards, the ladies certainly are beautiful.

I am so glad the Michelle is better. Yes I know another day in the hospital would probably have been better for her, but I was the same way. The hospital made me feel shut in and I really did do better once I was home with my children.

    God Bless you all.

  27. Mary,

I'm so happy to read that Michelle is home after a successful surgery. And while I know you would have liked her to stay in the hospital one more day, I also know from experience that there is nothing like being home to speed up the recovery process. I'll continue to keep her in my thoughts and prayers as she heals.

Oh...and I just love your vintage postcards...they are so beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend.
