Show and Tell Friday and Other News

It's time for Show and Tell Friday. If you would like to participate, drop over to Kelli's at There's No Place Like Home.

I missed Show and Tell Friday last week, but remembered it this week. I may actually get back on track here. Things were so hectic for a bit that I could barely remember my name, address and year of birth.
This week I'd like to show you my Scarlett O' Hara figurine. I picked her up at an auction sale and I have the certificate of authenticity. She was released by the Franklin Mint in 1987. I've owned her for about two years. Since Gone With the Wind is one of my favorite movies, I just couldn't resist her, especially when she went for only about half of the original price.

Scarlett is 12 inches tall and she is a beauty. I know that Avon had a small Scarlett figurine out, but this one is just the perfect size. She sits on a shelf in my computer room and keeps me company when I write and blog. She is beautiful and adds old country charm to the room, which is decorated in vintage items that I've picked up at auctions, garage sales and in thrift stores. Maybe next week I will show you my Peerless Gum tin sign that hangs on the wall near my computer.
Happy Birthday to my dear friend, Denise, at Samaritan Women. Denise, when I read on your blog that it was your birthday on Friday, I just had to find a special card for you. I hope you enjoy it.
Please drop by Denise's blog and wish her a Happy Birthday. She's been in a lot of pain with her back and could definitely use a little sunshine in her life.

Update on Michelle:
Things were going along good until Michelle's incision opened. A nurse is now coming in twice a day - morning and night - to irrigate it and pack the incision. One nurse neglected to clean it properly and the infection got worse. It was very sore yesterday, but today the nursing supervisor came to check things out and she has that nurse under investigation.
The supervisor did a thorough job of irrigating the wound. The other nurse had let the wound sit with the old dressing on for 20 hours. Of course that made things worse and then she said she wasn't coming back that day. I lost it. I phoned the nursing supervisor on Wednesday night and that is why she came out today. I'm glad she did, as she found out that the nurse in question was charting that Michelle's incision was dry when it has been nothing but far from dry. Michelle had put the dressings in a ziploc bag and kept them for the supervisor. So we shall see what happens.
The supervisor did say that particular nurse will not be coming back to do Michelle's dressing. Of that we are thankful.
I took the boys to school this morning, picked up some Polysporin for Michelle and then stayed while she showered. After that we talked for a few minutes and I came home. It was nice having a few quiet minutes with her. Usually she is working so the only time we get to talk is when the boys are there or on the phone.
That's about all the news for tonight. Sorry I've been a little sporadic in posting and visiting. I still have a very low energy level and hope to get some rest on the weekend.
Remember to do a kind deed for someone today. It could be a family member, a friend or a stranger. Whoever it is, a small kindness can make a big difference when someone is having a bad day. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. I'm sorry to hear about Michelle's incision. How maddening to have a nurse like that. I've worked with a few like that - most are good, but one can do a lot of damage. Glad you reported her.

  2. I seem to remember the Scarlett Avon bottle....

Poor Michelle, bless her. She's had a round with that infected incision. I do hope she gets better care and gets better quickly!

And you too, Mary. I pray you both get well soon.

    Love you, my friend,

    Diane

  3. Well fiddle-de-de, Miz Mary, what a beautiful figurine! I guess Gone With the Wind is my all time favorite movie. I've watched it over and over for years. Great find there. I would have snatched that one too!

I'm so sorry to hear about Michelle's problems and the neglect of that nurse. It really is scary sometimes. I'm so glad you called her supervisor. She doesn't need to be in this field if she doesn't care. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now! :o)

I sure hope your feeling better. I guess it takes a while to get over these "bugs". I had a much better day today so I think my medicine is starting to work or else my diet is..can't hurt! Thanks again for all your help and prayers.

    Love and Hugs,
    Hope

  5. Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about Michelle's problem with that nurse. You did the right thing calling the supervisor. It's so important to keep that area clean.

And thank you again for your help with my Canadian pharmacy issue. I did check out Maple Leaf Meds through the BBB and they look OK. I really, really appreciate all you did to help. You certainly did your good deed for the day!

I'm glad that nurse is working and doing the proper thing to help Michelle.

    Have a terrific day Mary.

  8. I’m sorry to hear of Michelle’s continuing problems and certainly hope the change in ‘nurses’ helps. What a shame to encounter someone incompetent! Do take care of yourself.

  10. Good Afternoon Mary,
I love your Scarlett O'Hara figurine. You got a great bargain to get her for half of what it would normally cost. "THANK YOU" for sharing Scarlett with us. You had told me you have been missing my visits, I have been coming by and leaving comments. The only one I didn't comment on was your Monday post. Maybe you just overlooked mine. I'm sorry that Michelle has had so much problems with her incision. But "PRAISE GOD" it is getting better and I'm so glad you called the Nurse Supervisor. That other nurse sure doesn't need to be working at all. Hopefully they will take her nursing license away from her. I know that sounds mean, but my goodness, it could have gotten real bad. "PRAISE GOD" it didn't tho. I am sorry that your still not feeling up to par, but hopefully you will be back to yourself soon and have lots of energy. I'm still remembering you and Michelle in my prayers. Guess what? It is finally Snowing here. They have let the School out here at 12:15p.m. and the girls should be home shortly. They ride the bus home from School unless it's raining really hard like it was on Monday. I pick them up then. We are still under a Winter Storm Warning until midnight tonight. They are saying we could get anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of Snow before it's all over with. We will see tho. We are suppose to start moving tomorrow if we don't have alot of Snow. It is very cold here as well. It's now down to 30 degrees and the winds have been howling since last night. The winds cut right thru you. Tis a good day to stay in for sure. Take care my friend and have a great day/weekend. May God Bless You and Yours. I will be back to my regular posting and visiting after the Cable people come out sometime on Monday and hook us back up.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  17. Dearest Mary,

Your Scarlett O'Hara figurine is just gorgeous, such a wonderful treasure to get at an auction sale! I remember going to see Gone With The Wind when it was re-released at the cinema theater in colour in the 1970's. I practically swooned over Rhett Butler:-)

Oh dear, poor Michelle...some nurses should NOT be nurses! She's got a lot to answer for with Michelle's infection getting worse!! I'm glad you called the supervisor and that she came over herself. Prayers that the incision will now heal properly.

Hope you feel better soon too my friend...when I had that flu, I remember the exhaustion that was with me for a long while. Love you. xoxo

  20. Your figurines are so beautiful... Scarlett is LOVELY
I know that you are proud to have her sit in your home... I am so sorry for Michelle... in today's world you have to be very proactive in your health and health of those you love.... Mom was given some medicine by the foot Dr last week and after reading the insert I threw them in the toilet.... the side effect were terrible... Liver trouble, stomach bleeding, anemia. etc etc... everything that we have been working to get better for her.... soooooo when we went back to the Dr I told him that I will not give them to her... Her gout is better anyway without it... got to watch out for each other....

sorry you are still under the weather and I pray that you regain your strength....

love ya lots and thanks for the beautiful on line card,,, so very very nice....

    I had a great birthday...

  25. Mary,

I'm so sorry that Michelle had to deal with that infection. It's a good thing you were there to call the nursing supervisor, otherwise I'm sure it would have gotten worse. I'm so happy that Michelle is doing better now.

I love your Scarlet figurine!! It is lovely!

    Love & Hugs,
    Tina
