Green Thumb Sunday

It's Green Thumb Sunday, hosted by Tricia at As the Garden Grows. If you'd like to participate, just click on the link to find out how.

I was out cleaning up the flower beds and wanted to show you some photos of what is growing in my garden.
A few days ago, I raked a lot of dead leaves from last fall out of the corner by the back shed. My rhubarb was just peeking through the ground. Yesterday, I took a look to see how it was coming along and I was shocked at how much it's grown. I'm going to keep a sharp eye on it. I believe it needs to transplanted to an area that has more sun. Does anyone know when rhubarb should be transplanted. I'm guessing now would be a good time but I'm not sure. Any advice would be appreciated.
In my side garden, my tulips and lavender are growing. I can't believe how thick the lavender is. I'm thinking I should be thinning it out. Again, any advice would be appreciated.
This is the flower garden where two of my peonies grow. The one to the left is a pale pink color - the one in the corner is a dark red. I will show you these again when they bloom. I also need to take the rest of the dead stalks out of this area.

I hope you've enjoyed my Green Thumb Sunday for this week. Enjoy your day and get in some relaxation before the work week starts again tomorrow. ~Blessings, Mary~

  3. I think now is a good time to divide and transplant rhubarb, Mary. Same for the lavender, I believe.

I love peonies and have tried to grow them, but they don't seem to like this soil here, even with humus and compost added. I love their scent, it's like a combination of old roses and lilies to me.

Hope your weekend is going well, Mary.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  4. The tulips are beautiful!! Mary, what do you do with your rhubarb? I used to eat it when I was a kid...just raw. Loved it [my mouth is puckering as I type]...do you make pies from it, or what?

Happy Sunday to you my friend.

  6. Good Morning Mary,
I thought I better come by to visit so you would know I'm okay. I didn't get a chance to visit after I had posted last Wednesday and I posted this morning and am out visiting some this morning. I have just been so busy here lately with the girls and going to ball games. It's going to get even busier next month as there will be more games during the week and all. Your flowers are very beautiful. I don't know anything about rhubarb, but have seen it on the Food Network Channel in cooking with it. I have seen some rhubarb pies made from it. The lavendar is beautiful and I have not clue about it either. I am going to get me some flowers and plant them and a rose bush my Mom is giving me as soon as it quits all this raining around here. Your Tulips and Peonies are beautiful and Tulips along with Roses are 2 of my favorite flowers. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.

  8. Hi Mary,
I always enjoy seeing the progress of everyone's gardens across blogland. So many different stages and seasons!
Lucky you to be able to grow rhubarb. I have never been able to get it to grow here. Do you have a favorite recipe you use it in? It's so pricey in the stores!!

  16. Thanks for stopping by my blog Mary. My mom always used to think of rhubarb as a spring tonic: "good for what ails you" she always said. She would stew it, make pies, rhubarb crunch etc. Ours grew in full sun and seemed to do well wherever and whenever it was transplanted.
    Happy Sunday!

  17. I should have enough rhubarb for Rhubarb Custard pie this week. Our first pie is a spring ritual.

  18. Mary, your garden is growing so nicely. It has still been pretty cold here, so only my very brave plants have been poking their heads out. I did notice my Monkshood coming up, the rhubarb, tulips and iris.

    God bless.

  20. I know nothing about rhubarb but I so envy your lavender.... I am going to try and grow some this year... I have read about several growers here in Oklahoma and I hope to get to one of them this summer... I just want a little patch... We ate a lot of rhubard pie in England but I would not have a clue how to fix it myself...

Thanks for sharing your garden.. stop by and take a look at the little house where Mom and Dad live.. We have landscaped it....

    hugs

Looks like spring has happened in your part of the world. We are well beyond spring now, with temperatures in the 90's.

  24. Mary,

I love your garden! Beautiful! It looks like you've already gotten your answer about transplanting rhubarb - now is good. LOL

When I was growing up in the city, we had rhubarb growing wild in the yard. When Dave and I moved here to the country 24 years ago, there was rhubarb growing wild in the field!

Thank you for sharing all those beautiful flowers. Spring - at last!

    Hugs,
    Tina
