Safari in Disney's Animal Kingdom

I never did get around to showing anymore photos of our trip to Disney World. I guess life just got in the way and I've been posting about other things. I was deep in though trying to figure out what I was going to post and started looking through the pictures on my computer. These are photos of our safari trip at Disney's Animal Kingdom, so come along with me on safari.

These beautiful white and black birds were everywhere around this water. I'm not sure what they are and it was hard to take photos while bouncing around in a safari truck, but it was fun.
I'm not sure if these photos will enlarge if you click on them, but if you look closely, you will see hippos in the water and more of those black and white birds.
It looks as if these birds are reading the sign. I thought it was a cute outlook on their location.
Gators, gators everywhere. I sure wouldn't want to have to wade through this giant puddle. The boys enjoyed seeing them in a kind of natural habitat.
I have a thing for oddly shaped trees, so just couldn't resist taking a photo of these two. Aren't they unique? The above photo is just one of scenery. I am not sure why I took it but it gives you an idea of the landscape.
I believe these are wildebeasts. They were laying in this area. There were lots of animals out and about because of the cooler weather.
The giraffes were fun to spot in a natural habitat. Did you know that giraffe's have a blue tongue? It is really awesome to feed them. We did that at Silver Springs the last time we were in Florida in 2005.
The elephants are on the move. These guys were walking away from us. Maybe they were tired of people looking at them. After all, even elephants deserve some privacy.
And he keeps going, not interested in the people who really want him to turn around to have his picture taken.
Here is a mother and baby and a few others of the elephant herd. They were all moving toward the same area.
And as we moved along we saw this mother and baby moving toward the rocks in the background.
The water in this area definitely looked blue. I like the blues, greens and browns with the contrast of the white birds. This was a little island and many of those birds had congregated there.
As we rounded the next bend, to the left was a lion relaxing in the shade of these giant rocks.
Don't they remind you of the scene in Disney's Lion King movie? Pride Rock and there is Simba himself looking down at us.
The boys, hubby and I were all amazed at this site. How often will we see ostrich eggs in the wild and Mama and Daddy are staying close by to make sure no one or anything messes with them. I wouldn't want to approach this nest. This was an awesome sight.
And then we rounded the last bend on the safari and as we headed back toward the drop-off point, this was what we saw. It was breathtaking. I love the way those vines hang down toward the water. What a marvelous sight!
I hope you've enjoyed the safari with us. We certainly enjoyed seeing all of these animals and birds roaming free. Take care and have a great week. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. I loved seeing your Disney safari photos, Mary!
The ostriches with their egg is so fascinating! I saw a documentary on them recently, so how fun to be able to see it happen in real life!
But I think I'd want to stay far away from those gators! :)

  2. Good Morning Mary,
I so enjoyed the Disney Safari Ride with you. It was a beautiful trip. I love the odd shaped tree as well and if I'm going down the highway, I always look at some trees and see the different shapes as well. Those are some big Ostrich Eggs. I can't believe you were that close to them. The little Island with the blue water is just breathtaking. I wouldn't want to be near those gators either. LOL. "THANK YOU" for taking us on your Disney Safari Ride with you. It is a chilly morning here. It is 43 degrees and I had to turn the heat back on this morning. It's suppose to get down to 39 degrees tonight. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.
P.S. I don't know if I told you already, but I love your new header.

  3. This was great....I loved the elephant photos you took. Of course, I think elephants are quite regal looking myself. And the lions?---yes, it DOES remind me of "Lion King"!!!

    Wonderful, wonderful tour Mary.

    Happy Monday.

  7. Thanks for taking us on a safari. It was most interesting. Your garden looks like it is in the first lull of Spring. It is so good to see those shoots start up. I have been walking around the yard, checking on the progress of my plants. Mother and I always did this together everytime we would first get together either at her home or ours and I can still hear her as she would note a plant had just emergerd.
    Peace

  11. Now that is a place I would LOVE to visit...it's wonderful how closely to their natural habitat they have made it over there! And yes, the one with the lion, it immediately reminded me of a scene in Lion King:-) Wow, you even got to see ostrich eggs...as you say, that's not something you see every day!! I got such a kick out of enlarging that one photo to see the hippos in the water...how neat!! Wonderful photos, dear Mary, thank you so much for sharing them with us:-) Love you! xoxo

  12. It is easy to get distracted and then forget to post something. It is a good thing our computers hold the pictures isn't it!

They did have the habitat looking more natural than most zoo's I've been too. For some reason when I go all of the animals are snoozing...talk about boring...LOL!

    Have a great day ☺

  14. I'm so glad I came by today. Loved the safari trip.

Our neighbor raised ostrichs for a time. He was going to get rich by selling the ostrich meat. I saw lots of eggs, but the meat never did take off. He gave my husband some that he cooked in a crock pot and made a stew with potatoes, onions, and carrots. I didn't taste it but the ones that did said it was just like beef. I don't know how he got rid of them, but he doesn't have them any more.

My husband jumped on the "Boer Goat" thing that was going to make every one rich selling these goats for their meat. He does sell some of the young goats to people who come by and some of them do eat them. But we're not getting rich. He probably doesn't get enough to pay for the feed. But he enjoys messing with goats and chickens and such.

I was looking at your peonies (sp.?) and thinking that yours are right behind mine.. They are showing their pink buds and will be opening soon... maybe this week. ;)

I love the oddly shaped trees, they seem to add a bit of texture to a background.

  16. Cool pics, Mary! It looks like Disney has the natural habitats fixed just right for the animals. I liked the pic with the alligators!I've been trying to find a good little video of the Okefenokee Swamp, but so far I haven't found the one that I want. I wouldn't want to wade through that pond either - could you imagine coming up on a nest of gators in the wild? The other night on tv, maybe it was "Cops", the police had pulled over a man who was driving down the road with a live alligator laid in his back window.

You and family have a lot of memories from this trip. I hope that you can visit again, next time when the weather is warm.
