Show and Tell Friday

It's time for Show and Tell Friday. If you would like to participate, drop over to Kelli's at There's No Place Like Home.
This week for Show and Tell Friday I'd like all of my friends and readers to join Meeko and I on the evening walk we took on Thursday.
We left the house and walked across the street into the park. From there we turned east and walked down the trail.
We hadn't gone far until I noticed the most beautiful fragrance being carried along on the breeze. I knew what it was before we rounded the bend. This is what I saw. A beautiful lilac bush. In the above photo, the lilacs look pink.
In this one they look to be more purple. This is their true color and they are beautiful and oh, so fragrant. Though they are in the park I believe my neighbor planted the bush. She plants many plants on the park side of her fence. She likes to beautify the neighborhood.
As we continued on, the sun was beginning to set. You can see a bit of the glow in the top of the tree in this photo. If you look hard, you will be able to see a park bench. Sometimes Meeko and I stop here just to watch the birds.

Here is another area where there is a bench where we stop to view nature. Just beyond is the canal and mallard ducks sometimes congregate here. I was a little disappointed that there were none. I enjoy watching their antics as they splash in the water.

As we made our way toward home, I noticed that one of my neighbors near the trail has planted a new clematis. It is going to be lovely once it takes root. She's even put a little fence around, which looks really cute.

As Meeko and I walked, we were givien the honor of being entertained with the songs of sparrows, robins, cardinals and red-winged blackbirds. I really enjoy getting out into nature during the spring and though there was a chill in the air, it was warmer than it's been for a few days.

What gifts of nature have you enjoyed lately? I'd love to hear what type of birds and other critters can be found in your neighborhood. Enjoy the weekend. ~Blessings, Mary~

To my friends and readers in the US, enjoy the Memorial Day weekend. If you are traveling, use caution on the roads. Stay alert, stay safe!

Please be sure to drop by and check out my Friday Flea Market post. This week I have some vintage sundress patterns and a vintage headvase up for sale.

  1. Beautiful photos. Our lilacs are not quite fully open yet. I just love that scent. It takes me back to my childhood because we had a huge bush outside out kitchen.

  5. What a glorious walk!!! As you know, I love to go walking...even in the city. There is a certain peacefulness that goes with it! And your walk was perfect! Love the clematis. A friend of mine, on her blog last week had a photo of a pinkish clematis that was used for ground-cover. It was perfect. They ARE gorgeous flowers.

Too bad the mallard ducks were no where to be seen. Maybe next time.

    Thanks for the stroll Mary.

  7. I love lilacs.......Just planted a Texas lilac in my yard... Cant wait for it to grow... My sweet husband has taken up bird watching and has seen so many different types that we did not know we had... We have a lot of blue birds and so he is buying roasted meal worms to lure them into our yard......... We are finally seeing more deer here.. Construction of new house had scared them off for a while... but we have 10 acres and they are wondering back in.......

I love your pictures of your walk with Meeko.......... you make me want to get out and walk... I need to do that anyway....

    Hugs

  14. Mary,

I enjoyed reading about your walk with Meeko. He is beautiful as is your area. Our lilacs bloomed last month. Right now, the roses are blooming.

I have lots of birs around here. Indigo buntings, gold finches, cardinals, blue jays, phoebe's, hummingbirds, lots of mourning doves, and the usual chickadee's, woodpeckers, nuthatches, etc. I feed the birds around here year round, so they are quite numerous. I could go on and on, but I'd better not. lol.

Loved your poem, below as well. Take care and have a lovely weekend.

    Hugs,

    Renie

  18. That was a very nice walk indeed ! For the moment we don't have many birds here around, it's too noisy because houses are built. I hope they will come back when it's finished !

  21. Mary,

What gorgeous photos and a lovely show and tell Friday! Lilacs are my very favorite flower. I have always loved them, even as a child.

Saturday a pileated woodpecker landed in one of the trees in the yard. I didn't have the camera with me. I wish I had because he was a beauty!

Thank you for your Memorial Day wishes. :-)

    Hugs,
    Tina

  23. Well, I think I"ve about caught up on your posts. I enjoyed sharing the walk with you and Meeko. How far is this from your house and how long is the walk? My Clematis has about stopped blooming. I notice they are really pretty for a couple of weeks then it begins to get too hot for them.
We saw an Oriole on our canoe trip and two types of Turtles. Most of the time when I spotted something and tried to focus on it, I'd be by it too soon to photograph. Yesterday in an area where the rain had formed small ponds, we saw numerous Great White Heron. I wished I hadn't packed my camera in the trunk but on the interstate highway it is hard to slow down and photograph things. Going up, we drove on the rural roads. They were so curvy and hilly that it was like being on a roller coaster. I get motion sick and I was pretty miserable so Jim said we'd take the highway home. These were the Ozarks after all.
