The Envelope Please...

The envelope please... and the winner of the contest to guess what I had done that I had never done before in my life is............................

Yes, I was tired of my thin, gray hair and I dyed it. When I was young, dying your hair was all the fad, but my parents would never allow it. I guess they ingrained that into me and throughout my adult life I just never did it. Besides, I loved my thick mop of auburn. However, after my accident in 1988, I began to loose my hair and it got thinner, and thinner and... well, you get the idea.

When I got my hair cut the other day, the hairdresser, whom I've gone to for years asked me why I didn't dye it. She told me it would look a little thicker and would look fuller with a bit of color. So yesterday I went to the drugstore and bought some hair dye. She was right. It does at least look like I have hair now. See below. I'm quite pleased, though I don't look forward to having to dye it every six weeks or so. But when I had to choose whether to look bald or like I still have a little hair, I choose the latter. Even Jordan noticed. He kept looking at me oddly and then asked me if I'd dyed my hair.

So Anni, in the next few days I will send your gift off to you in the mail. I will send you an email when it's on its way.

In renovation news, the lathe and plaster are still upstairs. In yesterday's post I explained that I had called 1-800-Got-J*unk. They had quoted me a price of $215 to $300 for removing all the garbage. They were to be here at 2pm.

About 1:45, the man called and said he would be about one hour and a half getting here, as they were halfway between here and Niagara Falls. I understand things happen, so that was fine. When he did get here, he looked at the mess upstairs and told me it would be $750 to remove it. No way was I paying that much if I have to carry it downstairs myself. So I sent him on his way and called the company. I heard every excuse in the book from them. The only thing I have to say is that I will never call them again nor will I ever refer anyone to them.

So, the plaster and lathe is still upstairs and we can't paint a thing until it is gone because of all the dust. We can tape and mud though, so we will get that done. This afternoon another man, an independent, is coming to give us a price. If that is too steep, we will end up doing it ourselves, but that will cause things to be delayed once again, so am keeping my fingers crossed that this man is reasonable. Oh, the joys of renovations, but at least it is moving forward, albeit slowly.

Take care and have a wonderful Friday. And to all my American friends and readers, Happy Independence Day.~Blessings, Mary~

  2. Nothing wrong with a change.

I use to do a lot with my hair when I was young.
Now I'm going grey which I don't mine.

  3. What a bum deal that was with the garbage pickup! Companies who operate like that should be ashamed of being such cheats!
The hair though - looks great! So far, mine hasn't gone too grey but I have said for many, many years now that I won't color it -"why waste the money to frost it when I can let Mother Nature do it all for free" has been my motto but then again, Mother Nature hasn't done but just a little "frost" job so depending on how fast -or slow -she acts may determine what I do eventually. "To color or not to color? That may be the question."
    Peace.

  5. I just now finished putting the new template up on my blog this morning and did a little blog entry for today. Then, I skimmed down from yesterday and read the comments left for me. Your comment said for me to stop by yours. -----

Oh my gosh Mary!!! I love your hair. To make it sound like I'm one of those aged ones from the late 70s...in the words of Billy Crystal....

    YOU LOOK MAH-H-VELOUS!!!!

You're brave. I've oftentimes thought of doing the same thing to my hair, and then I remember when I was a teenager and my mom's hair was partially dark ash blond and graying. I convinced her to let me try and get it ALL gray --one weekend while Dad was away, we did it. And thank goodness it was just a 'rinse' because when it was all done her hair was PURPLE.

Dad probably would have shot us both when he returned. Needless to say I washed her hair a dozen times or more to get the stuff out. It was still a faint lavender when he got home...and the man didn't notice. rofl

I love it. Thing is...do you? That's what counts!!!!

I get a giftie? Ohhhhh, way cool.

  6. I have very thin hair-so I know how you feel. But you look great!!

So annoying when someone gives you a quote and then changes it-my Dad taught me you stick by what you said-even if you find out you under estimated the cost. Hope the new guy works out.

  7. The colour that you and your hairdresser chose is perfect for you. I love it!!!

I have heard that 1-800 Got Junk sometimes causes people more headaches than they are worth. The nearest one to us is Regina and after the run in our youngest son had with them, I wonder why they are still in business.

    God bless.

  8. Your new look is great! I've been highlighting mine now for several years to help add a little body and "umph" to my suddenly thinner hair.

Your problem with the "junk man" is so similar to my sister's experience. She called a company to come pickup a few pieces of old furniture and, when they got to her home, they upped the original quote by several hundred dollars. Grrr...

  12. I like your hair but why didn't you smile.
As to the work upstairs, people just don't want to work anymore, I reckon. On Wednesday my friend gave me a table made from the bottom of an old singer sewing machine with a granite top. We were inching our way down her drive to my van and thinking about the best way to get it up high enough to go in. It was so-o heavy. I noticed three young men walking to a car parked on the street in front of her house so I asked kindly if they could give us a hand. One of them shook his head but finally one of them came over and the rest followed. I couldn't believe they were going to turn me down. What happened to good ole mannerly courtesy.
Well, if you have to do it yourselves, be sure to wear a mask. If I was nearby, I'd help. I'm sure your grandsons can help you though.
Thanks for the email. I sent it on to some other people.
We're just staying in. I'm going back to Alabama on Monday so I'm trying to get everything done. We're going to do cheeseburgers on the grill. It is so very hot and humid here no one wants to be outside.

  15. Oh Mary, you look wonderful:-) Funny how a little bit of dye can make us feel so much better! hehe Congratulations to Anni for guessing what you had done!!!

Oh dear, I can't believe those men wanted $750 for the job when they had quoted you a much lower price...as you said, for that price I'd remove all the stuff myself! Sheesh!

It's been just beautiful here as well the last few days and it's supposed to be a very hot and sunny weekend. I'm having my mom & Ross over for a barbecue tomorrow:-) xoxo

  17. I've been browsing online greater than three hours nowadays, yet I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is pretty value sufficient for me. In my view, if all website owners and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the web shall be much more helpful than ever before.

  18. You actually make it appear so easy along with your presentation
however I in finding this topic to be actually
something which I believe I'd by no means understand. It kind of feels too complex and very extensive for me. I am taking a look forward on your next submit, I'll attempt to get the
    hang of it!
