A Christmas Memory

I remember as a child looking forward to hearing Christmas songs on TV. Among my favorites were Silent Night, Hark the Harold Angels Sing and O' Holy Night. The Christmas music in those days were not the modern carols of today. My favorite carol at the time was probably O' Little Town of Bethlehem. I was probably drawn to it because I loved babies, loved reading the Christmas story and because I could relate to being in the stable with the animals all around.

Then, in 1957, I heard a song that I had never heard before. I sat on the floor and listened as the words drifted from the old radio that sat on the shelf above the couch. The name of the song was Mary's Boy Child and it was sung by Harry Belafonte. Today, I heard the song on the radio and it triggered this memory. Since I'm still far behind in all my Christmas preparations and am still fighting this virus, I am making this a short post. Enjoy! ~Blessings, Mary!

PS. Be sure to turn the music player off at the bottom of the page in order to hear this lovely Christmas song.

  3. I'd forgotten about this song until I played your video, but I do remember it and I like it too.

Sorry you're still trying to get over your virus. My allergies have flared up again, but not nearly as bad as they were a couple of months ago, praise God!

We've got about 3 inches of ice/sleet/snow on the ground, with most of it being sleet, and it's still sleeting. It was 64F at midnight Sunday night/Monday morning and now it's 23F and headed into the teens for the low Tuesday morning.

I love snow, but I could do without the ice and sleet!

Hope you get better soon so you can enjoy your Christmas season, Mary.

    Merry Christmas!

    Much love,

    Diane

  6. I quite like Christmas music but not so much the many of the pop tunes. Hearing Bing sing White Christmas is not something that I anticipate with gladness.

  9. I'm so far behind in houswork, and now Bud is napping so I decided to quit while he's in there so not to disturb him...he's still fighting it like you. Altho we both still have the nasty cough, it is breaking up.

It's been a dreary, icy day here...forecasted to have icy rains today and tonight. A good night to stay home, indoors and dry and warm. But it's freezing the flu germs...that's the only good thing about it.

Take care sweet Mary. You need to get 100% soon!!!!

  10. I love how they put that song to scenes of this movie. It was such a great picture of what things would have been like for Mary so long ago.
I am sorry you are still not feeling good. I pray for a speedy recovery.
I got my card yesterday...thank you girl!
