When it Rains, it Pours!

So far 2009 has been an exciting year and this is only the second week. We had water pouring through the ceiling, which hubby fixed successfully. Then our neighbor, Marrianne, who lives alone, fell and ripped the tendon out of her knee. Subsequently, she went to the hospital and stayed there for 48 hours before surgery was performed. This morning I picked her up and brought her home. She can't do much for herself, so I am helping her out when I can.

Two nights ago, hubby slipped on the ice when he was working and did something to his back. He was in a lot of pain and today I phoned a chiropractor, who agreed to see him. He came home feeling much better and his wallet was a lot lighter. I guess it won't put as much strain on his back not having that $75 to carry around. He has to go back Monday for another treatment, which will make his wallet another $30 lighter. Seems to me that his back will not be under as much strain. Hopefully at that point he will feel much better and not have to go back. Keeping my fingers crossed.

On a happier note, Brandon phoned on Friday and asked if he could stay overnight. He arrived about 7pm and we watched a bit of TV and then had two games of Mario Baseball. The first game he beat me 15 to 1. He was ecstatic. However, the first time I batted in the second game, I hit a homerun. He said, "Okay, Grandma, no more mercy for you," and beat me 9 to 1. At least I did better the second time, but he was thrilled that he won both games.

This morning, Brandon and I went to Zellers (Canadian department store similar to Wal *Mart.) I happened to see comforters in a bin in the center aisle. They were marked $19.95. I didn't expect I'd find a Queen for that price but found two and I bought both. That is a great deal. Comforters are usually very expensive. I bought a cream one with roses and a black and white one. When I get the camera working, I will take photos.

When it rains, it pours. Some negative things have happened this year, but have also received a few blessings. One counteracts the other and that's what life is all about. ~Blessings, Mary~

  3. Sorry to hear about the negatives, Mary. I hope your husband's back is better and, and that your neighbor is doing well.

Those comforters were a great deal! And I know how much you enjoy having Brandon over, even if he beats you at Mario Baseball! LOL.

    Have a good weekend!

  5. Mary I hope your husbands back gets feeling better soon.

Hey Brandon is a good ball player, the young student I work with loves to play ball with me in the gym during his break and always seems to win as well.

You got some great deals on those comforters. Can hardly wait to see photos of them, they sound absolutely beautiful.

    God bless.

  7. I agree with your "give and take" theory about life. Or, as my ex-husband used to always say, "Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you and sometimes, you both go hungry."

  8. It does seem that troubles come in multiples, doesn't it? If we look for them though, every cloud has a silver lining, so it's said. We can always find something good about almost any situation if we look long enough.

Hope your hubby and your neighbor feel better soon.

Have a blessed Sunday, my friend. :o)

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  9. Or those who live in Northern climate can say "once it freezes every thing just goes to heck in a hen basket"
I know it seem like every fall once it freeze a couple of times things just fall a part here.
Hope Hubby makes a quick and full recovery.

    Coffee is on.

  11. I've had back problems but certainly not from carrying money around! Ah, if only that were the cause.

  12. So, do you ever let your grandson win in games? My sister lets her grandchidren win and I make my grandchildren earn it. She's a much nicer grandmother.

  14. Good Happy Sunday to you my dear friend!!
Long time no see over here at your blog....I swore that I would get here today come Hell or High Water!.......Here I am.

    LOL

I bet Brandon was really elated to stomp Grandma's butt! Too funny. I ♥ stories like this when it involves young kids and adults having fun together! This was super. Too bad that home run wasn't enough to make it a game a piece so you'd both have to play the tie breaker.

I hope your hubby's back is as good as new real soon.

And the comforters? Whoa...EXCELLENT price!!! Just excellent. The cream colored with roses sounds awesome. Victorian kinda, maybe?

I will have to tell Bud his balls are 'exquisite'. ROFLMAO.

You cracked me up on that one. See the orange juice sprayed all over here? That's from me, reading your comment you left for me.

I got a smile out of your game with you grandson , mine do the same with me.
How lucky to find a bargain at Zellars makes one feel good.

  17. Hope things smooth out as time goes by, but highs and lows are always a natural happenstance in life. I love that you're keeping a gratitude list in your sidebar still like I'm doing at Small Reflections and I'm glad you're feeling a bit better ;--)

  22. I hope your husband's back is improving. I have never been to a chiropractor, but my daughter has had luck with one along with an acupuncturist to treat an injured shoulder. Hope 2009 brings only good things to you!

  24. Hopefully all the negative stuff is now out of the way and you will have only positive the rest of the year:-) Bless your heart for helping out your neighbour, I'm sure she appreciates it very much. Oh dear, poor Dwight, I do hope his back feels better real soon...otherwise he'll have a completely empty wallet! lol I've never been to a chiropractor as I refuse to pay what they ask for but I guess if it works, it's worth it.

Sounds like a fun time with Brandon:-) You certainly did get a great deal on those comforters! Not too often you can get queen size for $20, wow!!! xoxo
