Dakota and the Boys

Brandon and Jordan came to spend Saturday night so Mom & Dad could go out for Mom's birthday. Of course they were anxious to see Dakota and they actually gave us a big break because they played with him and kept him tired out.

We watched Space Buddies, the movie about the Golden Retrievers that are shot into space. It was a great movie and we all enjoyed it. If you haven't seen it, be sure to pick up a copy. It is the latest in the Air Bud series.

Here is Dakota in his box in the bedroom. Jordan took this picture and did a very good job. Dakota likes his box at night but sleeps on the carpet in the day time mostly. If he gets scolded he heads for his box. I think it is his safe haven. Brandon and Dakota on the bed enjoying time together. This is not what I wanted this time but one day when I was out and hubby was trying to sleep, he put Dakota on the bed. Now he tries to get up there.
Jordan and Dakota having their turn on the bed. Dakota likes that new silky comforter. Our dogs seem to find their way onto the furniture and he is no exception. Meeko loved sleeping on the bed, as did our American Eskimo, Snowball.

Dakota is getting to know his name. Most of the time he comes when I call him, although he may just be responding to my voice. He sometimes goes to the door and asks to be let out. Sometimes he goes out and comes back in and does his business on the floor, but most of the time he goes on the newspaper. I think he is doing very well for his age. After all, he's only a baby.

Not much else going on here. I've enrolled in a course to write articles and picture books for children. I'm waiting for my books to arrive and will keep you updated on how that goes. I've always wanted to write picture books and have a fantasy chapter book written. I'm also revising the novel that I wrote during the 90s.

Other than chasing Dakota and trying to get some writing done, life hasn't been too exciting here lately. Well, that is not entirely true. It's a little more exciting than I'd like. It's actually a full time job just to take care of Dakota right now. He is a ball of energy and I'm in my 60th year. The energy levels just don't match. I had forgotten how energetic puppies are. Michelle warned me that I had brought home a baby and she was right.

Our weather has been beautiful and spring-like the last few days, but it's going to turn cold again. I'm certainly looking forward to the arrival of spring.

Take care and be sure to get out into the great outdoors for some fresh air and exercise. ~Blessings, Mary~

  3. Love the pics of Dakota and the boys, but the first pic -of Dakota alone -the look in his eyes is sooooo darned cute! Makes you just wanna cuddle him!
Good luck with the writing. Hope it helps you do the kinds of writing you've dreamed about.

  4. Dakota is cute - he will make a fine dog!

I don't think that I've seen the air bud series, I'm sure the kids have though. My favorite dog movie is "Where the Red Fern Grows" - about the two red bone hounds, Old Dan and Little Ann.

My second favorite is "Old Yeller".

I avoid watching the end of both movies.

(my boys had a dog that they named after Little Ann)

  5. I have seen the ads for the Air Buds but never watched any of them. Maybe will pick this up. With no children near by I tend to miss this type of movie. Our Molly is now 8 months old and doing well, Charlie is the higher energy one. He is doing so great, and I am very proud of him. Being a few years older then you I know what you mean about the energy levels. I kind of like to think they keep me energized and do not let me become an old pooper outer, lol. Same with the other animals, they give me reasons to be up and gettting my exercise. That puppy sure ended up in a great place.
Just read the post from Deborah, will have to see that movie as Molly is a red bone.

  9. grands and a puppy.. now that takes lots of energy! I am wanting to write a childrens book (stories about the animals here) but have no ideal how to get started. My daughter and son in law are graphic artists and will illustrate it for me if I ever get around to it. Have a wonderful day!

  13. Every time I see a puppy as cute as Dakota, those "I-wanna-puppy" voices start singing in my head. Maybe some day...sigh. In the meantime, please keep those Dakota photos and news coming...he's just too precious.

  14. You can tell that the boys adore Dakota. I think that puppy is already growing a bit! Too cute :)
I know what you mean about having less energy at this age. I feel good, but just don't have quite the stamina I once did.
    Enjoy your writing!

  15. My nine yr old saw that movie at her slumber party last weekend...:)

I remember all too well the joys and exhaustion of raising a puppy just two years ago!

So cute that he heads for his box if he gets scolded! :)

  16. Just had to read the latest installment of Dakota's series. He is a cutie. Somethings you just have to learn to live with if you have a pet. I hate for Smokey to get in my bed. Can't stand all that hair. So, I put an afghan on top for him. He does get under it when its cold. Lately, he's been back in his basket for the first time since I moved it here. His favorite place, is on the recliner with me. Luckily, my vacuum has a pet hair attachment.

  17. I haven't seen any of the air bud movies.
It seem puppydogs and boys always goes together.
Well a least they can where each other out.

Both Daisy and our cat Rosie likes the couch and like to set between me and when I pet them it got to be both at the same time.

Good luck with your children witting class.

    Coffee is on.

  18. Dakota is a QT for sure!!! Makes me want a puppy, but methinks Molly would rather have me all to herself. My neighbors got a new puppy a week or so ago and the little thing drives Molly NUTS at the moment ;--)

I'm glad the weather is warming up for you. Your blog looks very festive. I've not had much time to spend at the computer because I'm enjoying the time with my sister now that she's back for a few months, but I hope to catch up eventually.
    Hugs and blessings,

  19. Dakota is adorable! But, like you said, he is just a baby. And I might add, a cute one at that! I can see the boys love him so much. Cute how he goes to his little box when he gets scolded. He's learning, isn't he? I know you miss Meeko, but I am so happy that you decided to get a new puppy right away. As you said, he will never replace your beloved Meeko, but he will make his own special place in your hearts, as Meeko and Snowball did. That's the hard part of pet ownership...having to say goodbye someday. I have 33 yet to see through that...need I say anything more? Heartbreak to no end....but for now, they are living the good life! LOL Keep those pics coming of Dakota as it will be fun watching him grow up into a beautiful dog.

  20. I forgot to mention this...but my cats LOVE my bed. So I bought a couple of sheets just for them and keep one over my comforter and shams and pillows at all times. Doesn't look the greatest, but it keeps the hair off my good comforter. I change it every couple of days.
