This post will be short and sweet because Dakota has me plum tuckered out. He slept all night, but woke me up this morning at 5:45. Now I don't mind getting up fairly early but I'd like it to be at least an hour later than that. However, he had other plans.
He was frisky all day and you have to keep your eye on him every minute. He can find things I didn't even realize were in this house. Like small pieces of paper and if he can't find one, he uses the newspaper we have by the kitchen door to make his own.
He is a cutey though. I bought him a chicken leg squeeze toy at the grocery store this morning. Watching him carry it around the house is hilarious. He takes it by the small end and carries it until he gets tired and then he drags it.
He slept from 6:30 tonight until about 8pm and then napped until 10pm. Now he is up and a ball of energy. I told hubby he could watch him until he goes to work. I'm going to bed. I'm not sure how long it will be for, so best be getting there.
Though every muscle in our bodies ache from bending down and chasing him around, we wouldn't trade him for anything. He seems to be very intelligent. I showed him where his water bowl was last night and he went straight for it after he had done his business this morning. I did get him to eat canned puppy food but he's having nothing to do with the dry chow.
Good night, my gentle readers. I will try to get more time to visit. ~Blessings, Mary~
I hope you get a little more rest tonight, Mary. Puppies are like babies, a lot of work, but so cute and worth it in the end!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Mari, yep a lot of work and a ton of satifaction.
ReplyDeleteWow...it's just like having babies again!!! I'm a little jealous of all the cuteness and sweetness that is at your house!
ReplyDeleteI'd be exhausted too! I think until he's a little more used to your routine and grows a bit, it's going to be tiring!
ReplyDeleteGet some rest if you can!
hugs))
That's a cute little pup, Mary..:) Lab and Sheperds are both good dogs, so he should turn out fine. Plus, I like puppy kisses.
ReplyDeleteYES! YES! YES! Oh he is SO sweet! What a precious baby. I am so happy you have him. I look forward to watching him grow and become the protector and guardian of your home. That is a wonderful combination of breeds. Juneau and I send our prayers, hugs and the best of wishes to everyone!

I kinda figured you'd be worn to a thread .... the first week or so takes some getting used to having a young'un around again. LOL
ReplyDeleteI can just picture the huge bone and Dakota dragging it around. What a cutie.
...and it's all worth it. He'll be a great protector in time.
It's like me with the twins - they find every tiny little thing on the floor and stick it in their mouths - constant supervision required!
ReplyDeletemary...try to nap when he naps, you will get through this difficult stage!
ReplyDelete~AM
You are brave raising such a young pup. Our last 2 dogs were pound rescues and were about 10 months old, past teething and trained. But Dakota will grow quickly. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the puppy. I know you will be sleep deprived for a few weeks but things will settle down and you will have a wonderful happy and loving puppy.
ReplyDeleteNew arrivals for both of us then. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteOh Mary, I have been away and didn't know that you lost your precious Meeko!!! I am so sorry and know how heavy your heart must still be. How lovely to have a new friend come into your life to help ease the pain. As you say he will never replace Meeko, Meeko will always have a very special place in your heart, but you have enough love to go around and Dakota will keep you busy. He is adorable!! Take care my friend!
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, having gone through this recently I can relate. Actually, it still goes on. I have been letting Charlie and Molly sleep up here with me as downstairs gets pretty chilly at night. Their wake up time fluctulates between 4:30 and 6:30. Having over 150 pounds of dog land on you wakes you up quickly, lol. As it warms I am thinking they will be sleeping in their crates, so Mom can get a few more zzzzzzzzz's.
ReplyDeleteJust the way Smokey is sometimes. And then when he has gotten me up for some attention, he goes to sleep. He's better when he gets to sleep in the bedroom with me while Honey Bear is traveling. You'll be getting lots of good exercise with that little fellow around. Doesn't take long to fall in love, does it?
ReplyDeleteMama Bear
gosh I remember those puppy days, and taking my foxy outside to do her business every hour on the hour...they are cute though :-)
ReplyDeleteMary, I am so sorry you lost Meeko.
ReplyDeleteThe little puppy will help fill the hole in your heart. Little puppies are a lot of work! When our dog Molly was a puppy she was so cute following Kelly everywhere!! We got a new kitty that same year and he thinks he is a puppy!! It is so cute to watch him come when Kelly calls him. Our other kitty wasn't raised with Molly so SHE acts like a cat and just stands and looks at you when you say here kitty, kitty!
Love and hugs Carolyn
I agree with the other posters. Puppies are like having a new baby in the house. Hope you got some sleep.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You have a delightful puppy. A cross of two good breeds.
ReplyDeleteI think he lwet you sleep in! My Great Dane, Heidi, woke me up at 2:00AM and I had to take her outside. It was -30C here last night. other times she has gotten me up at 4:30AM.
She is the love of my life these days, a constant companion. She forever amuses me.
Well, good for you getting some exercise...even if it is not by choice. ;)
ReplyDeleteI guess you are kind of like a Mom with toddlers.
I am glad you are finding some time to get some rest. I wonder how long you have till he settles down. Bless you girl!
