This one is so pretty. I got the root from my neighbor, Marrianne, last summer. This one has really spread.
This heirloom iris has yellow, beige and a cream color in it. I got the root from Mom and have a lot of this one in front and on the side of the house. The original toe (as the root is called) was one that my paternal grandmother had. The original would be about 90 years old now.
The one above and below is called a Black Knight. I bought it about three years ago. It is so purple, it is almost black.
And the Black Knight has a yellowish gold throat. It is a beauty and the blooms are as big as the palm of my hand. It is a bearded iris. Everyone comments on it.
This is my pink columbine. Aunt May gave it to me and I take extra special care of it. She was special to me and each time I see it, I think of her.

I wish all of my US friends a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. If you are on the roads, take extra care and please don't drink and drive. The life you save may be your own.
Such lovely flowers my friend.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I can't wait until my purple ones bloom in the spring too :-)
ReplyDeleteWe are waiting for our Siberian Iris' to bloom. Your flowers are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers! Flowers bring such joy to our lives don't they?! I think that is so nice that you have the pink columbine to remind you of your dear Aunt May. I know you miss her so much. I am going to post some pictures of my flowers today or tomorrow. It's so nice to have things in bloom after such a long winter! We are headed to the coast today after Sunday School for some lobster to celebrate Memorial Weekend! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with blogger last week. Every site that I tried to get on said that it was aborted and shut down. It corrected itself and now is fine. Go figure!?
Mary, Mary, Mary!!!! I so envy you with those iris. They're ALL just so stunning. I want one of each!!
ReplyDeleteHope your Sunday is going to treat you well.
Your blog loads a lot quicker now. Hope it's working for you too.
PS...I forgot to tell you that the pink columbine are mighty fine too. That is colorado's state flower. And the pink are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteHand-me-down plants are special. We have a few.
ReplyDeleteTh Black Knight is so gorgeous - they all are, but I especially like that one. I keep seeing different colors around town that make me want to stop and ask for a root! We have several different columbine, but not pink. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe are having lousy weather for our holiday week-end.
The Iris are just beautiful. I have all the same colors-except the black one-and I wish I had it!

ReplyDeleteWell, blogger seems to be working for me today so I will hopefully get this comment out before something happens!!! I love the Iris. Our are just about to bloom. They are so tall this year that I am hoping the flowers will be huge ;p I have a few that were in my husbands grand-mothers garden in Minnesota...I just love that you can share them with everyone and they always have a story to tell! Take care Mary and if you don't hear from me blame it on blogger. jj
ReplyDeleteOh Mary! I so envy your very green thumb! Mine is pretty much of the black variety -kill most plants I touch!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of some awesome flowers!
Your irises are beautiful! I especially liked the first one with its deep purple - almost like royalty. Can't believe a flower or plant actually could be 90 years old. Must be a magical toe er, root!
ReplyDeleteIris is beautiful - I've never seen the cream/beige colored though - I bet it is pretty around the purple. At my old address, I had purple Iris, of the lighter color.
