Hubby's Test Results

Today hubby had an appointment at the stroke clinic. I'm not at all impressed by the doctor's diagnosis. Hubby has had several spells where his vision blurs and once he had garbled speech.

The doctor says it has nothing to do with the stroke he had last year and that he has a little hardening of the arteries in his neck. His diagnosis...it's the beginning of migraines. Not sure what migraines have to do with speech, but I'm not a medical professional. I've never known anyone that couldn't talk while having a migraine and hubby didn't have a bad headache. He has had headaches, but nothing that made him very uncomfortable. Just a nagging ache. So, I'm not sure if the news is good or bad. It's getting until I don't have much faith in doctors.

The one thing the doctor did notice is that his fingernails and fingers are not normal. He said that can be the beginning of lung or kidney disease. Now he is going to send him for a catscan of his lungs. I do know that the fingernails can indicate a plethora of diseases, so it's good that he caught that. Hubby's fingers and fingernails have been curved for many years. Hopefully there is nothing seriously wrong.

We've had cool rainy weather this week. The cool is okay with me, but not quite this cool. I like it to reach 70. LOL Today was a little better, but it's been quite chilly in the evening.

Other than that, not much news from here.

  1. You actually can have migraines where that happens, and there is no headache. It's unusual to get when you are old though and it's usually women. It sounds kind of strange to me, but you would think a stroke clinic would be able to tell if it was stroke related! Good call on the fingernails though.

  2. It's fascinating to me that they can tell so many things from fingernails. I hope they figure it all out soon!

  5. Oh, contraire Mary. Anyone can have garbled speech because of migraine headaches...even if there are no symptoms of the headache itself, there is a major artery in the back of the neck called Basilar [spelling I'm not sure] ---and you can have auras and stroke {TIA also} like symptoms which may produce garbled speech.

I remember reading about this in a file of one of the dr.s patient's....let me see if I can find a link for you. Just go to Google and look it up. Check out the symptoms when you find something on it....

  7. I hope everything goes well with your husband and that your weather gets nicer. It's frustrating when things go wrong and you don't know what's causing it.

Summer is hurrying by and I do not seem to have enough time in the days to get all things done... OH WELL...... Mom and Dad are about the same but they diagnosed Mom with Kidney failure yesterday... Now it is both of them.... but I just cannot seem to get them to drink... I just pray.....

  13. Well, let's hope that it is due to migraines and nothing more serious! Having been checked at the stroke clinic, I'm sure they know what they're talking about. But, with so many misdiagnosis going around, it's no wonder you're wary. I did know that fingernails can show health issues, I remember one time being at my doctor's and complaining about something...the first thing she did was take my hands and look at my fingernails. That's when she explained to me that they can tell by the shape and colour if there's a health problem.

Keeping you all in my prayers, dear Mary. Think of you often and hope we can meet up this Summer. xoxo

  15. arrrgggghhhhh.
migraines get blamed for a plethora of things....rarely is migraine actually the problem. I suggest getting a NEUROLOGISTS opinion on whether it's a migraine causing that....don't just rely on the stroke clinic to diagnose a neurologic issue. Sure as heck sounds like TIA to me.....but nevermind me...after all, I'm JUST a nurse.

  18. i get garbled speech for about a few hours to a day before a migraine. i start to seem really really stupid too... like, i stop making as much sense. i also get sparks in front of my eyes and one of my eyes will get watery and doesn't focus properly - it feels like my two eyes are looking at objects at different distances away.

sometimes my fingers also go numb and i get other problems like nausea. usually i have extreme pain, but at times i have no pain, and it can also fall anywhere in between the two extremes.

both migraines and strokes are caused by blood vessel issues in the head, so it stands to reason the symptoms would be similar, in my opinion.

  20. I'm so sorry about your husband-I'll be praying for him. I traveled back through your posts-and discovered I should have been praying for you! There are 4 siblings in my Dad's family-all four have had open heart surgery. It's amazing the way the surgery can prolong and enrich your life-I'm praying you continue to heal well!!
