Update on Jo Ann

Today I went to see my friend, Jo Ann. My regular readers and blogging friends will know that Jo Ann has terminal cancer. She had surgery for cancer of the jaw last December and in June they found that she had stage 4 lung cancer. The cancer continues to spread. It is now in her bones, her liver and her stomach. I can see her failing each time I go to see her. She is getting nutrition intravenously and she can now administer her own morphine whenever she needs it.

Jo Ann's time here is very limited and she is quite aware of the fact. She has signed a DNR form and has refused chemo and radiation. The cancer is so far progressed that she figures it would only prolong her pain.

Please pray that she will pass away peacefully and that the pain will be minimal. I will try to keep you updated.

Thank you to everyone who has been praying.

  2. I am so sorry Mary and I will pray for her each night. I have so missed talking with you. Thing have been so crazy. Dad was so very sick a week before he went into the hospital and then two weeks there before he died. Mom is with me now for a while. We have found a wonderful place just 5 minutes from me and we will know early next week if there is an opening. I pray you are well and stronger each day.......

  6. Will keep Joann, as well as you, her good, faithful friend, in my prayers. I can empathize with you and your sentiments, your worries about her. This is one of those times when it is probably best to pray that God's will be done and that He will be gracious to her by not prolonging any more suffering. Her illness though sounds so much like what a very dear friend of mine went through 22 years ago -surgery for cancer on the jaw bone, and about 3 months later, it was discovered to have spread and there were tumors then -one behind one eye and the other at the base of his skull. He died about 9 months after the initial surgery. Such a terrible loss in both cases, of wonderful friends -yours as well as mine.

  7. Praying for Jo Ann and all those around her.

I just watched a Docu on 2 teen aged bros who had cancer, and recovered. They said, if it returned, they didn't want anymore treatment.

Father healing is yours to give, and so is eternal life...she cannot loose, whatever your choice, she still wins. Thank you and Praise your Holy Name.In Jesus name, Amen"

  10. That is so very sad, Mary, but I don't blame her for not wanting the treatments, as you say why would anyone want to prolong the pain if there is no hope of a full recovery. We're going through this with Ross right now and I'm really hoping that his sons don't decide to make him have radiation treatments just to make him live an extra 4 weeks...the poor man has suffered enough. Please know that I keep Jo Ann in my prayers. xoxo

  11. Mary,
It's been awhile since I've visited, and that's my loss. I have thought of you often.

Jo Ann has a treasure in her friend, you...I do pray God will be merciful in taking her home. Maybe you would share this verse that means so much to me...First Peter 5:7..."Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you."

God bless you as you stand by her....Betty
