A Bit of Outdoor Work

Today was a nice day. It was a bit chilly this morning but this afternoon was nice. There was a strong breeze, but once hubby and I started working, it was perfect weather to work in the yard.

About a month ago, we were at Home* Dep*ot and bought two wire flower boxes with the grass inserts. I've wanted some of these for a while and they were on sale. Hubby installed them today. They couldn't be installed per the instructions as our porch railing is too wide, but he figured it out.

This is on the other side of the steps and they both look nice. I'm not sure what I should put in them. Right now I'm thinking geraniums, but not sure, as the last couple of times that I had them they didn't do well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hubby got a barrel fountain for his birthday and he got it up and running. We both like it and under it is a hidey hole, or as Brandon says, storage space. Well it's become the home of my shadow fairy. I think she looks cute peeking out from inside the barrel.

We've decided to leave this plant in the stump that sits on the front lawn. I took a resin pump and placed on the other end. It looks quite pretty. The photo doesn't really do it justice.

We had a good time just sprucing things up a little. Planting will come later. We're still getting frost some nights. I hope you enjoy the week.

  2. All your work is just so perfect. I do love the barrel fountain. And believe it or not, Bud has an old rusty water pump handle that he has been thinking of adding to our yard too. Love what you did.

I have an award for you. Come on by.

  3. I love it when your garden looks better for all the work you do. I spent yesterday up rooting weeds and laying a new surface of gravel on the crushed gravel path beside our house. After a day of heavy labour it looked remarkably like it did before I started.

    Only, somewhat neater.

  4. mary...lovely photos! Do your wire planters get full sun? If so, Geraniums are a good choice, along with Flowering Vinca, Verbena, Bacopa(excellent trailing flower), African Daisy, wave Petunias, a little bit of potato vine is a great trailer as well. I can't wait to see photos of the finished project!
MudPuppy will be posting on my blog soon, please do stop by to read his words!

  6. Yesterday was HOT here - 93F. Crazy place we live! It's supposed to equal that today, then head down a bit, and end up in the 60s on the end of the week - but not back to a freeze. DC emptied the fuel out of the snowblower and put it away for the year - an act of faith! Ha.

    Have a wonderful day!

  7. Good morning dear Mary:-)

I'm so sorry for not having visited in the last few days but if you read my post this morning, you'll know why! Today it's cold and raining and I told mom I'm staying home, I need a day off!!!

I was looking at those types of planters with the grass inserts, a lot of people prefer those. You could always plant petunias or pansies in them, as they are flowers that bloom all summer long.

Love your barrel fountain...everything looks great and watch out when all the flowers are in bloom, it will be so beautiful:-) xoxo

  8. I am headed out into the yard today.. AND I just put 4 of those hanging pots on mothers porch.. I should take a picture! Put wave petunias in them for something that will vine down and then put something behind them for something tall and full ..... like some sort of gerber. daisy.......... that is what I see when I look at that empty vessel...........

Love to water pump with the beautiful purple flowers in the yard..........

How are you!!!!!!! Miss talking to you...... I need to send you nice long email.......

  10. This is my third pretty garden blog today. How depressing.

Nothing grows for me except weeds. I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours over the years planting both vegetable and flower gardens, and nothing grows. Which is odd, since I am a kind of "earthy" person.

I think like art, music, and photography, some people were born with gardening skills.

On the flip side, the Blogosphere allows me to enjoy the fruits of the labors of others, and have a virtual gardens all over the world.

  11. Mary,

Your bit of outdoor work sure netted some great results! Everything is beautiful. Love your shadow fairy peeking out from under the barrel fountain, and what a great idea to hide a stump under some pretty flowers.

We have been trying to tidy up at the cabin on the river, this week, for the coming up Memorial Day weekend. Haven't used it much yet this spring, so I'm looking forward to some cook outs and boating on the river.

Have a wonderful rest of the week.

    Huggies,

    Renie
