Dakota Helping with Yard Work

One of my readers had asked for photos of Dakota and it so happens that on the weekend he helped hubby do a bit of yard work.

We had this unsightly area at the corner just outside the flower bed. There used to be a sidewalk here, but when our sewer backed up, they had to remove it and dig a trench in the lawn to get to the street. We were quite tired of looking at it and the rain was eroding the bank, so on the weekend, we decided to do something about it.
Hubby was out there picking up stones and loosening the soil. Dakota was supervising. That is until...

He decided that all of the rocks didn't belong in the tub where hubby was putting them. So he started taking them out as fast as hubby was putting them in. Then he would throw them across the yard. Very helpful.

After a couple hours of work, this is what it now looks like. A lot better than it was, don't you think. Now we need to put a little topsoil on the terrace and plant some grass and it will look 100% better.

When you own a house, there is always something that needs doing. It's been a productive year so far and we have changed things a lot. Everything is beginning to look neat and tidy.

Enjoy your week and remember to do a random act of kindness.

  4. What a sweet dog, and a such a good helper. We used to have a dog that would dig and pull roots on command. She used to love to help us work in the yard. She died a few years ago. She was 14, and we decided not to get another dog - too confining, but one day we most likely will get another dog.

For now, our five house cats keep us pretty busy.

    Thanks for sharing.

  6. Dakota is getting so big! Soon he won't be a puppy anymore. Hope the lawnmower doesn't find the rocks he threw into the grass, lol!

That area looks great now! It would look good with either the grass you mentioned or a ground cover, or some hardy thyme or mosses there.

    Happy new week, Mary.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  10. Mary,

Dakota was very helpful! My mother-in-law had a large Norfork Island Pine potted on her front porch...our collie dog would take it out of the pot and bring it next door to our house...we would carry it back, replant...he brought it many times...

Edward and I are well...hope you and your husband are also...thanks for visiting with me...Betty

The area will look just fabulous when grass comes up to the walking stones. A good day's work!

  12. Goodness, Dakota is really getting big and oh yes, look at all the help he was! hehe Too cute! Yup, it does look a lot better now, Mary, and as you say when you own a house there's always something that needs doing. I want to finish planting my flowers this week but it's been raining and cold the last two days so don't know when I'll be able to do them. It's got to get better where the weather is concerned...right???? lol Have wonderful day my friend. xoxo
