This is a photo that was taken when he was about 3 months old.
This was him late this afternoon, guarding the door. He figures it is his job to tend that door. He lets us know when someone is around and that is exactly why we got him.
Another photo of him in front of the door.
He actually sat for me when I asked him and posed for this picture. He's coming along and though he still has some issues, they are few and far between.
I can't believe how far Dakota has come. He had some real issues when we got him. Though he is still hyper, he is calming down quite a bit. He was very easy to house train, but other issues kept flaring up. I do think that he is becoming more secure. We will never know why he and his sisters ended up at the Humane Society. I think what happens to puppies in their first few weeks of life affects them all of their lives.
Dakota is a good companion and I'm sure that some of his issues will fade away as he grows older. I wasn't sure what staying at the kennel would do, but it actually improved his behavior. He was sure glad to see us after a week and we were glad to see him.
He was such a cute puppy and now he is regal looking!
ReplyDeleteDakota is such a beauty (shh don't tell him I called him beautiful, guess I should have said handsome).
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Such a precious pet you have sweetie.
ReplyDeletesuch a nice doggy
ReplyDeleteI think Dakota was lucky to find such a good home.
ReplyDeleteHe is a handsome dog. I know that those first few weeks and months of life imprint an animal. I've seen it with Smokey.

Maybe god grant the wish to be child again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I like puppies when they are young, so does my husband. That is why we don't keep animals.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago, I took my girls to the Washington Zoo. My husband went there for a conference, and I was quite brave to take the girls there by myself as we arrived from Singapore.
Awwwwwwww, one of your best posts ever Mary! I really liked seeing him grow and become a big boy that he is now.
ReplyDeleteHe was such a cute puppy and now a handsome fellow. With you love and care, I think he will be over his issues in a couple of years. I understand about the issues as Maggie still does not like to ride in a vehicle. Peace
ReplyDeletedakota is a beautiful animal! I too, rescued my faithful companion. Great post!

We all know that Dakota is a good boy and loving companion. But....if we didn't, I believe we would hesitate crossing your threshold. He does give off an aura of protector. Love this post.
ReplyDeleteHe's such a pretty dog (handsome is probably the better word). I love the picture with his eyes closed. Looks like he's smiling.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 7 lb weight loss! You go, girl!
Dakota was a cute puppy and is a handsome dog. I'm glad all's going well with him. Congrats on your weight loss and best wishes on your journey.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
Mary, Dakota was a very cute puppy and has turned into quite a handsome dog. If anyone can help him get past his few remaining issues, I'm sure it is you! Hugs, Tina
