I have joined Green Thumb Sunday. I have a little bit of a green thumb but figure that by joining I will learn a lot about plants. For starters, can anyone tell me what kind of plant this is? A friend gave it to me 4 years ago and for the first couple of years it only grew foliage. The last two years it has had flowers on it in the fall. She didn't know the name of the plant and I haven't been able to identify it. Any help would be appreciated.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

  2. Thanks, dirty knees. I will do a bit of research and see if I can find out for sure. Appreciate it. And thanks for the warm welcome.

  3. I think Dirty Knees found the right answer. It is a Sedum - I'm just not sure what variety it is.

  5. Welll.....okay, I'll take everyone's word for it. Sedum. I couldn't tell for sure when I first looked, but I would have guessed Shrimp plant. Then, you typed it blooms in autumn...well, that eliminates Shrimp plant.

Never-the-less, it's very pretty. I bet it will attract the butterflies as they migrate?!

  7. Mary thank you for visiting my site.
    Your question about my header.
My header came from a email someone sent me. I loved the picture and thought it spoke what I wanted my blog to be about. Women joining together to serve the Lord.
I saved the picture to my photos on my computer and then just copied it into my header. I did not do anything with the html?--don't know how to deal with that stuff. There is another site that I get the pictures for my post. It is free. stock.xchng . They have some great pictures.I also opened up a blog that was closed to viewers so I could play on it and see how things worked before I started playing on my real blog.I do hope this helps.
I come back after church today and check your blog out. :)

  8. Kate,

I did a Google image search after Dirty Knees said Sedum and that is correct. I'm glad to know what it is since I've always wondered.

    Thanks for visiting.

It is indeed a sedum. Whatever it is, it's pretty. I will watch more carefully to see what type of insects it attracts.

  11. Sara,

Thanks for the comments on the sedum. As I said in the blog, it didn't bloom for the first couple of years. I was thinking of getting rid of it, but when it bloomed I changed my mind.

Thanks for dropping by. I appreciate your visit.

  13. Genny,

It's very different and something I'd never had in my garden before. I enjoy the fact that it blooms in the fall and lasts until we have our first big freeze.

Thanks for stopping by. Now I'm off to your blog.

  18. Yep that's definitely a sedum, Mine was a little small this year too because of the strange weather. If you water them well throughout the summer your plant will probably be larger and have even more flowers next fall.

  19. Tricia,

Thanks for the pointers. We didn't get much rain this summer and there was a water ban, so it didn't get as much water as it might have.

Glad you stopped by. Have a great day.

I did google it and it is a sendum - in fact, dirty knees was correct. It is "Frosty Morn' sedum. Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated.

  24. Mary,

I have a plant that looks very much like that one. I thought it was a lavender plant, but I'm not so sure now! I will try to post a photo of mine tomorrow. Perhaps you can tell if it is the same as yours. It's a really nice plant - whatever it is!

    I enjoyed my visit!

    Hugs,
    Tina

  25. Tina,

I also have a lavender plant that grows not far from this one. When you post it, I will have a look and see if I can tell what it is.

Take care and thanks for dropping by.
