Friday, June 20

Good morning! We have been having cool, rainy weather. Yesterday we had to wear sweaters because of the chill and it rained off and on all day.

Brandon spent the day with me and we did some gardening and planted some flowers in the some of the planters that I hadn't filled. We noticed some different flowers blooming in the front garden and Brandon commented that they were just like the ones in their front flower bed. It then dawned on me that Michelle gave me these last year. I do like them but need to move them. They are too near the center of the bed. So that is another project that needs doing.

The tomato plants that the boys and I planted a couple of weeks ago are about a foot high. They are doing well. My strawberries are ripening and I picked a handful for Brandon to enjoy. The rest aren't ripe yet, but there will be more. The contractor who came last winter to clear the pipes had to dig up that garden and many strawberry plants were lost. However, they will continue to spread and next year we will have more. In the meantime we will be able to go to the U-pick farm and get all that we want. Picking them is much more economical than buying them ready-picked.

My porch is a mess and needs cleaning badly, but I find myself needing to be at least two places at once. Since cloning hasn't been perfected yet, I have all of these things to do and not enough time to get at them all. So the porch will have to remain a mess for at least another day. I've learned to go with the flow and be thankful for what I can do.

Not much news from here other than that. Hubby worked upstairs a little. We are almost ready to put the sub floor down and so our next shopping trip will be for plywood.

Take care and have a great weekend. ~Blessings, Mary~

  1. We haven't had strawberries for a long time, when suddenly a few plants are coming up voluntarily - can't figure that one out! There was one nice-sized one the other day that a bird had pecked a bit of already. That's why we didn't have any more - the birds don't share with us!

  2. Weather-wise, sounds like we're both having pretty much the same bits of rain and much colder (ok, just cooler) weather too. Last night, it got down in the upper 40's and our furnace kicked on sometime in the middle of the night!
Just wanted to tell you too -my little veggie garden is still alive! The pepper plants are growing, so are the tomato plants -cabbage, I'm not so sure it's gonna make it but as small a space as I have this stuff in, I'm surprised any of it has made it this far! Cross your fingers, shake that rabbit's foot and pray for the best, huh?
    Peace.

  3. Wishing I had some fresh strawberries about now. That does sound good!

I've got more than enough to do, but I'm feeling kind of icky and I'm just not motivated to do anything right now. Maybe tomorrow. Famous last words of a putter-offer, eh?

Good luck getting your stuff done, Mary, and have a great weekend yourself! :o)

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  4. Just stopping by to say hi!
Sounds like a peaceful couple days...I wish I could grow strawberries...the last couple times I tried at our old house I'd only get a couple...and the squirrels snatched them before I could!

Love the post below where you're taking a walk, too...

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Trust me Mary...the world is not ready for a cloned you! [just kidding of course, you know I just couldn't resist a remark like that] The mess will be there another day.

There is nothing in this world better than home grown tomatoes and strawberries. Too bad the contractor had to mess with your garden, but that is just part of life I guess. But ---I'm drooling just knowing that Brandon got a handful of those good, sweet, yummies!!

Take care. Hope your Friday will treat you well.

  6. Good Morning Mary, I can relate to so much of what you wrote. My hubby helped me move the strawberry bed I found last year. I added some new plants and now it is overrunning with plants and berries, love it. There is so much to be done in and around here I will be busy for years. Enjoy your day, Barbara

  7. I've come to the conclusion that I only need to be extremely worried if I find myself with nothing to do. For a brief moment though, I did imagine what it might be like to be cloned and then I realized I would just end up with having all that much more to do. I'm glad God is the author of original!

  9. Hi Mary,
It's good to catch up on all your news. You certainly have been busy. Glad you got some strawberries for Brandon to enjoy. Ours get eaten by the birds and squirrels almost as fast as they set on. We are getting quite of bit of zucchini though..
Your bathroom project is a huge undertaking. We've done that before and it's a lot of work, but so worth it!
    hugs!

  12. We use to have strawberries in the veggie garden but they were spreading so much, we eventually dug them out. I miss having my own but like you, we have a pick your own strawberry farm nearby:-) I look forward to going to pick some every year...speaking of which, they should be ready in the next couple of weeks.

We had rain again today as well...my poor flowers are really getting water logged. I'm also afraid that the seeds we just planted in the veggie garden will rot before they can even start to grow!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, dear Mary. Don't overdo it!! xoxo

  13. Mary there can't be anything better than a freshy picked strawberry! So much more taste than those store bought ones we've had in the stores to date!
You are right the cost of picking almost as much as the
~freshly picked~ Ontario strawberries in stores soon!
I just love the idea of being out in a strwberry field!

Thank you so much for your sweet comments on all my recent posts!
Enjoy your weekend..hope the sun begins to shine soon! grrrr!

  14. Hi Mary! After one week I am finally able to go out a read a few blogs! Thanks so much for all your prayers.

I read all your other older posts and you have been really busy with the remodeling. I bet it will look great when you all get it finished.

I loved your pictures of your walk with Meko. You really got some good shots on your walk. Love and hugs, Grams

I am not good with strawberries, so I stick to cherries, raspberries and blackberries. I got my first two yellow squash off my vines, last Thursday and I enjoyed them more because they were the first from my garden. You have not seen a messy porch until you see our bottom porch. You would think Fred Sanford lived here. Do not worry about the mess as it will be here long after we are gone. If you get to it fine but if not it is no big deal. Peace

  16. Mary,

Sounds like a fun day with Brandon. I hope he is feeling better now.

Don't you just love fresh tomatoes from the garden??! There is nothing like them. Mariah and the kids planted some cherry tomatoes. She picked a couple tonight! Dave and Keely planted regular size tomatoes. I can't wait for the harvest! LOL

    Take care, my friend.
    Love & hugs,
    Tina
