A Great Nature Show

On Sunday night one of the neighbors from the next block brought her American Eskimo, Angela to see Meeko. They were playing in the yard at dusk and I happened to see the raccon watching them from the crotch of the tree at the end of our driveway. I brought it to the attention of my neighbor and then she spotted two babies climbing and playing in the very highest branches. Mama raccoon was standing guard at the crotch of the tree, as that is the only place that the babies could get down. The kits appeared to be about a month to six weeks old.

It was too dark to take a photo and I really wanted one. Well, today I was given the opportunity. The kits were climbing down the trunk of the tree this morning and I managed to get a picture. I think they escaped when Mama was sleeping because just as I took the picture, she came out of the hollow trunk and started chittering and chattering at them. She scolded them just as we would our babies if they were in danger. It didn't take them but a second to begin climbing back up the tree trunk.

I watched as Mama herded them into the hollow trunk, chittering and chattering the entire way. It was a beautiful show and great entertainment on a day when I wasn't feeling great.

Yes, the ear infection is back with a vengence. Tomorrow I go to the doctor to get a refill on my diabetic meds, so I will have him take a look at my ears and hopefully he will give me antibiotics. I've been using ear drops for about two weeks now to no avail, so I guess I really need to get them cleared up. I always wonder if the ear infections I've suffered throughout my life will one day damage my hearing. I pray not.

As for renovations, we ordered the plywood and the wallboard today and it will be delivered tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping that once we try putting the bathroom together that it will go quickly.

I wish all my friends and readers a great week. Be sure to take time to relax and enjoy your favorite space. Get out into nature and watch the birds or participate in a favorite past time. Our lives are too fast paced and we need to have some time for ourselves. ~Blessings, Mary~

Update: Today is Faerie Day and Pea at Pea's Corner is celebrating. Please drop by and celebrate with her, get your very own faerie name and pick up a copy of this button.

When I entered my name to get my faerie name, I found I was a Columbine Faerie and that is fine by me. I love columbine, especially purple ones.

Your fairy is called Columbine Goblinweb
She is a bringer of riches and wealth.
She lives in mushroom fields and quiet meadows.
She is only seen in the mist of an early morning.
She wears lilac and purple like columbine flowers. She has gentle green wings like a butterfly.
Get your free fairy name here!

Pea has created a lovely faerie garden in her yard. Be sure to visit her. It is most delightful.

  1. Mary - that picture is just great! It looks like a postcard or poster. They are so cute, but I remember the damage they caused when I was a young girl on the farm. My Dad was not a fan of the raccoons!

  3. Loved the photo, Mary - too cute. But as Mari said, they are also way, way destructive little so-and-sos too!
Hope you get the ear problems looked at and something done for them. Earaches and toothaches, two of the nastiest maladies we can have and very little to be done to give fast relief for either at times.
    Peace.

  11. You sure caught those rascals just right. Nice picture. I wanted to let you know I will send my prayers along for your Aunt. I think the idea of being in pain for long periods of time would scare me also. Great you could spend time with the boys and in your garden. Those are memories they will carry with them, as will you. Nice planters and flowers, some of my favorite things. Enjoy, Barbara

  13. Oh my goodness!!! Aren't they the cutest ever? What a show that musta been. They're darling, and the photo you got is just super Mary! Or should I call you Columbine Goblinweb? That's a hoot. And we're both seen only in the early morning mist. Hmmmmm, that tells us something now, doesn't it?

Hope the ear infections clear up. And your doctor's appointment went well. You know what I mean.

    Hugs to you.

  16. Hello dear Mary:-)

Gosh, I'm so behind with visiting...it's been beautiful the last couple of days so I've been spending most of my time outside. Today I had all kinds of running around to do to get my new Health Card and also get Passport pictures taken, as well as the form filled out. By July of next year we'll need a passport to even cross the border by car so I thought I'd better get at it!

Loved that picture of the raccoons, how adorable they are! We had an adult one sleeping in one of our trees for a few days last summer...he'd only come down during the night:-)

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that your ear infection is back! I had a severe ear infection years ago and never want to repeat that experience!!! Hopefully the doctor can give you something for it.

Happy Fairy Day to you too, dear Mary...or should I say dear Columbine Goblinweb! hehe I'm so glad you were able to join me in celebration of these delightful little faes:-) xoxo

  17. That is a great picture - perfect posing.

I'm so sorry about the ear problems - nothing hurts worse than earaches. I had one on vacation in a camping trailer when I was a young teen - just miserable! We had to find a doctor in the middle of our vacation.

  20. Those little kits are soooooo cute! Don't you wish you knew what mama was saying to them? Our mom raccoon has three babies that we've seen, may have more but she waits till it's almost dark to bring them out.
So sorry you have that blasted ear infection! Those are so painful! Hope your doc gave you something for it.
    Still praying for your aunt!

  21. The pic of the baby raccoons is adorable!!! That would be a beautiful print to have enlarged and matted and framed. They must be very entertaining to watch! Nothing like nature, is there?

Hope your ear problems are soon cleared up for you. They can be so painful and uncomfortable.

Enjoy reading your blog! You write so beautifully!

  22. What grand entertainment. Nothing like a nature show to make you smile. Sorry about the ear. You might need tubes put in the help with the ear infections. My forty something year old niece just had it done. Peace
