Today I'd like to introduce you to my dog, Meeko. He is a very loving and loyal companion and a great protector. There's a couple of times that he's come to my defence when we were out walking and was approached by someone who was aggressive.
Meeko is a gentle giant. However, his job is to protect his family and he takes that job seriously.
Meeko thinks he's the king of the house. He likes to be in control. He knows he isn't to be on the furniture but sometimes he tries his luck to see if we are watching. Above Meeko and my oldest grandson are trying to pull the wool over my eyes. However, they got caught red-handed. Look at Meeko's face. Doesn't it appear like he is laughing. He has a partner in crime - someone who isn't protesting fiercely because he's on the couch.
And here, above is the youngest grandson and Meeko on the bed. Both of them know that this is not allowed, but Meeko and the boys try their limits every once in a while.
Here is a picture of Meeko alone. He enjoys being outside and is for the most part very obedient. When we got him, they told us he wouldn't obey. However he knows his place in the pack and also knows when he's overstepped his limits. That's when the ears and tail go down and he slinks off in to his favorite corner.
Meeko is a very big part of our lives. Yes, he would like to be Leader of the Pack. He would like to be king of the household. Unfortunately for him his name is not King and he is not head of the household. He is a faithful companion, part of our family and a very big part of our lives. We wouldn't know what to do without him.
*sigh*....we had a Siberian Husky! Long, long ago. The name was Kemosabe. [the indian 'saying' for friend in Lone Ranger and Tonto]
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Meeko is GORGEOUS!!!
Gorgeous dog, is it a husky? They are a very lively breed so I believe needing a lot of exercise (a lady near my house trains dogs and she was working on a husky and told me all about it, lol).
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the photos :-)
He's beautiful and looks like he has quite the personality. Thanks for the introduction!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking dog. It's nice that you can have this added companion and protector in your life. Blessings...
ReplyDeleteMeeko is gorgeous, Mary, thanks for sharing him with us ;0)
ReplyDeleteLooks like the grandsons enjoy him as well.
Enjoy your weekend!
Smiles,
Michele
Meeko is such a beautiful dog!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
Thank you, Anni. I'm sure your Siberian husky was beautiful and I love the name.
ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned that Meeko is an Alaskan malamute. He is somewhat bigger than a husky - he weighs 110 pounds and stands to my thigh.
ReplyDeletePaula,
ReplyDeleteMeeko has a very unique personality. He "talks" and seldom barks, which is nice. Our previous dog was a barker.
Ellen,
ReplyDeleteOur neighborhood has declined since we moved here 15 years ago. However, no one bothers us because they know Meeko is here. That gives me a feeling of security.
Beautiful dog, with lots of personality, you can tell!
ReplyDeleteMichele,
ReplyDeleteMeeko is a darling and the boys know that he will do whatever they say. So when Grandma isn't looking, they sneak him onto the furniture. I remember being a kid, so don't give them too hard a time. Meeko knows when he's caught and he knows he's not to be on the furniture, but just like a kid he tries to get away with anything he can.
Katherine,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. We think he's beautiful and we get a lot of comments from people when we're out and about.
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteWe were posting at the same time. Thanks for your comments on Meeko. Yes, he has a wonderful personality.
What a beautiful dog! And I am so glad that he is so protective of your family. Thanks for writing about him. I enjoyed reading about him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dog! I wish our dogs were so well trained!
ReplyDeletemommy,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Thanks for your comments.
Lynne,
ReplyDeleteIt took many hours of training to make Meeko mind. Alaskan malamutes are stubborn, but we got Meeko when he was just 8 weeks old. That made him easier to train.
what a beautiful dog!

ReplyDeleteI love dogs....... I have always had a dog.. Once had a St. Bernard called Boogger Bear...... I put him on a log chain and he pulled it along with the log to the high school to meet the boys as they headed home......ahahhahah He was a gentle giant.......
ReplyDeleteDenise,
ReplyDeleteYour St. Bernard sounds like he also had a great personality. I love those dogs, but they are huge. Dogs bring such happiness into our lives. I'd hate to be without Meeko.
What a lovely dog and boyish grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteThis is something I will have to show my son in the morning. He love these dogs, border collies, shar pei, horses, cats, goats...
Meeko is so beautiful my friend.
ReplyDeleteYour Meeko is a lovely dog and obviously a great companion and a wonderful breed.
ReplyDeleteI have had many different dogs and they all seem to find a way to capture your heart.
retha,
ReplyDeleteYes, the boys like being mischieveous, but I don't really mind. Meeko does know that he's not to be on the furniture. However, the boys can coax him up with little problem, as he loves spending their affection.
Denise,
Thanks for your comments about Meeko. He is indeed, beautiful.
Philip,
It doesn't matter what breed they are, they definitely all have their own personality and yes, they can work their way into your heart very quickly.
Thanks to all of you for your visit. I enjoy hearing from everyone.

Jane,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments on Meeko's name. It was the grandsons that named him. Remember Meeko from the Disney film Pochontas? Well, Meeko means little one with a big heart and the boys had just saw that movie when we got Meeko. We had planned to call him Mick-a-lack, an Eskimo name, but the boys began calling him Meeko and it stuck.
What a beautiful face on that dog!!!
ReplyDeleteSusan
He is truly beautiful!

Hope your weekend is wonderful, Mary. ;-)
